I will be spending a week in Palo Alto on business from Feb 21-27. Is there any fly fishing for trout or salmon within reach, say even if I have to drive to Yosemite? Are there any seasons even open in CA at that time? Is there another website that has more information?

Might want to go to the regional bulletin board (probably the southwest board?) at flyshop.com -- they ought to be able to help you out. Hot Creek or the Owens River might be possibilities for trout. Good luck.

well if you want to fish for steelhead you could try the south fork of the eel river,or the russian river,or the american river, but if you want trout you might want to try the owens river.

FISH ON!!!

i live on the border of california and oregon and it depends on what you call with in reach. currently we have not had any rain and all of our rivers are low and clear. but who knows by then. the south fork of the eel is about 4-5 hours north of the battle zone you will be in. the mad river is about another hour north. both rivers have runs of steelhead. the south fork has an acess problem. the mad is more of a bankie river. e-mail me and i will give you a current update. tyeeterror@aol.com
