What kind of paint should I use to get the best coat on jigheads for river use? I've tried using Testor's but after a few scrapes along the bottom the paint chips off. What's been successful for you?

Thanks-------<*)))><<

I've used Cabella's Vinyl Lure and Jig Finish with good results although it will eventually chip off.

I used so much of it that I eventually bought it direct from Component Systems (5003 Packer Drive - Wausau, WI 54401 715/845-3009). Thye have a color selection which includes Pink Pearl and some glow-in-the-dark colors.

It is important to under coat raw lead with white before the color finish.

The stuff I use is Pro-Tec powder paint I found it at a local tackle shop. What I do is preheat the jig head with an alcohol lamp to about 250 deg.for about 15 seconds on top of the flame. Then dip it into the powder working it around. take it out shake it off and then put it in the oven to finish the cure .It is available in many colors including glow.It is a very durable powder coat

I have used powder, regular spray paint, vinyl and the hot colored dipping paints. The best looking heads I have made are undercoated with white then painted the color, then I put a epoxy finish on the head to potect the paint job. All the paints seem to chip if not protected with the epoxy. The epoxy is the same stuff you put on rod wraps. This seems to work the best, but plain old spray paint still catches fish. The key to a good jig is a solid sharp hook so you get more hook ups.

Dick Nite's Fishermun's Lure-Coat works good too.
