Hi Guys,

I live in ny state, and I recently purchased a 13 ft float rod, and center pin reel. I really want to learn how to do this, and noone out here seems to use this method. I need any info anyone can give me on the basics. Such as how the rig the tippet the main line, how to attach float, how to shot the leader, when to use which type of float, how long to make the leader, and how to cast, and hopefully how to fight fish. Any help of any kind of help would be greatly appreciated. As a note I mostly fish the Salmon river in NY state. Thanks in advance Matt

http://www.steelheader.net/steelhead/float_fishing.htm check out this link for some basics. The shot can be placed in a group or spaced out. Or even just the weight of the jig.

Hey Matt, and I thought I was the only upstate NewYorker that surfed this site.I live near the Oswego river and this year I came in contact with a few groups of Canadians fishing this technique. They were hammering the fish, they were using eggs as bait and using 2pound tippet.Let me tell you though be prepared for some strange looks from other folks around here.I swear were so behind in the steelhead techniques,I recently started using Lil Corkys and yarn,, doing real well I might add. When I tell fellow fisherfolks what I caught them on there reply is"whats that".After seeing the canadians success I to have thought about going to float fishing, maybe you can tell me where around here one would even find a center pin reel for sale?Bye the way if youre interested in fishing with someone local who uses so-called west coast techniques,"Rags-Corkies-Spinners"contact me through this site.
