Wrap the braid around a toothpick 3-4 times and put the toothpick in the clip.

Wrap the braid around a toothpick 3-4 times and put the toothpick in the clip. +1 A simple solution to the problem. A mono topshot also works but an extra knot in the system doesn't make things better.

They make a clip for braid that you wrap line around and pop back into your place but I forget the name brand.Good luck,
SZ ProRelease is the one for braid.

twist it into a loop 5-8 times and pinch in deep almost to back of the rubber section of the clip...

Put a little section (maybe an inch or so) of surgical tubing on your line. Then feed out the line while holding the rubber tubing and then put the rubber tubing in the Scotty clip. A little bit of a hassle at first until you get used to it, but after a bit when you get the hang of it, works pretty well. No issues with premature release (I hate when that happens).

Replace the yellow pads. Throw the old ones in the trash.

Take a 2 inch piece of monofilament and wrap around the braid, then slide in the clip.

Is it new line? Sometimes it takes a while to get the "new" off. Then it seems to stick better. I have a friend who fishes mono so I just keep switching the releases that don't hold over to that side until I get one that will hold. After awhile the problem seems to go away.*jinx* and duh make sure clip is in tight option (pulled back)

Replace the yellow braided line. Put 30# Mono on your reel, Throw the braid in the trash. Fixed that for ya Gutz.

I use the Black's releases. You give the line 5-7 twists, put the loop in the clip and snap it into place. Tension adjustable for release. Never had one come out. Even if you drop fast there is not tension to release as it will only release directly back. Here is a link to show what they look like. Cabelas carries them also but a few dollars more. http://www.fishusa.com/product/Blacks-Do...CFZB_QgodaXYASgBret

I only like using braid for two things, and this is one of them...don't like the drag of a couple hundred feet of monofilament on the downrigger. I just use 50 feet of 30# mono as a topshot, and stick that in the 'rigger clip.
Fish on...

I just use 50 feet of 30# mono as a topshot, and stick that in the 'rigger clip. That is what I've done as well and it is working so far. As someone else mentioned, I've learned that scent and clips are a bad combo.

I'll use braid for plugs or spoons off of the 'rigger (with Offshore medium clips)... but mono only for draggin' a full-sized Hotspot.
I think the stretch of mono helps a bit when playing a hot fish with a big flasher in-line too.
