what about buying a used one and doing it yourself (install, you may have to take somewhere to tune) ? isnt it just a couple plugs and bolts?
my gfs dad had his ECU go out on his Suzuki 115 (i think its a zuki), he paid 400 total for it... i used to love Evinrude, but seeing my friends Hondas, Yamahas and Suzukis, there are better options these days it seems...
sorry about your troubles...

Yep, somehow those pesky oil changes don't seem so bad now!

Last year I bought Duckworth, sold the 115 Yamaha that was on it and bought a new 150 E-Tec. I really liked its performance but blew 2 injectors in the first 80 hours.... Sold the Duck and bought something with a Honda on the back. No regrets on the new purchase. I wasn't in the mood to miss this summers salmon fishing because of a POS engine being in the shop. Damn frightful investment. Nobody expects a boat to appreciate in value.

Ford/Chevy debate should be saved for Yam/Hon/Merc... E-Tec doesn't deserve that kind of respect.
I've been on the E-Tec owners group site long enough to know that all problems are either wrong prop or your TPS needs to be adjusted, blah blah blah. At least that's what the problem solvers want you to believe. Any engine that fickle needs a home in someone else's driveway.
I bought one because the price was good and the local Yamaha dealer pissed me off to the point of going a complete different direction. Sold the package a year later for a pretty good profit which I was fortunate to be able to do. Never again.
I do know from my time spent on that forum that BRP is pretty good about taking care of its customers. Even stuff after the warranty has expired will get serious consideration. Hopefully that is the case here.

Wntrrn, don't want you to think I was being critical of you. My comment about the "investment" was tic. Poor Investments are anything that I spend too much money on and get too little performance......I have a $5000 new zero turn sitting idle that fits that description....fkn thing....

I have no personal experience with the E-Tecs but I always get the feeling that there are more problems with them than people want to acknowledge simply because it is like a Ford/Chevy conversation
I know a few guys with E-tecs. Its funny how they toot the E-tec horn every chance they get, but NEVER mention the blown power heads, electrical issues, etc. When they're right, E-tecs are hot rods, and run like a bat outta hell. It seems like they're set up to run on the ragged edge of reliability though.

That's good news. I had heard BRP stands behind their product.
