It's the eleventh hour for OP wild steelhead send emails to the commission before they meet on Saturday, I figure it's better than sending nothing-
Dear Commission, Has a regular sportfisher for steelhead on the Olympic Peninsula streams I am writing this email to strongly urge the commission to oppose the new regulation for more liberal harvest of wild steelhead on the Olympic Peninsula. I believe this proposal will send our wild steelhead fishery backwards. On the Olympic Peninsula we have the last healthy wild stocks of steelhead in the state in a beautiful environment and it should be preserved. We should be working to manage these stocks for recreational value instead of always focusing on how many steelhead we can harvest. If sport fishers would like to harvest steelhead that's what the hatchery fish are for. At the commission testimony in Vancouver over 20+ sportfishers opposed this proposed regulation and gave very compelling testimonies not to increase harvest, only 4 showed support. These people who testified and the sportfishers who wrote you are your customers and the majority are saying "LET'S PRESERVE THIS FISHERY!" Please reevaluate this proposal and manage the Olympic Peninsula streams for a quality, world-class catch and release fishery for wild steelhead.
