I'm starting to get very interested in jig fishing. However, the only rod I own besides a slug of fly-rods is an 8 and a half foot casting setup. I want to set up a spin-outfit for this fishing style. Any info on quality equiptment would be helpfull. Thanks.

I might as well chime in on this one again.

I don't use a float/jig road exclusively, but it is a very effective way to cover alot water on big rivers and pockets of water/small slots on smaller rivers.

Try using the braided line, like another guy suggested. I use Power Pro 8/20 and recommend it highly. It floats, which allows you to mend it like a flyline. This gives it a drag-free drift, which the fish like. The Power Pro line doesn't require a triple bimini with super glue knot either.

When you use braided line that has no stretch, you must also use a mono leader (duh)and a lighter, slower action rod to act as a shock absorber. You should also use jigs with skookum hooks, not those wimpy crappie style pieces of garbage, or you'll bend hooks out as well.

Read Vedder's book on float fishing. It will save you some learning curve time.
