Apparently some of you keep at least three rods in the boat: one ready for drift fishing, with perhaps the likes of an Okie drifter; one ready for backtrolling, maybe with a Hot Shot; and one at the ready with a spinner or spoon of some sort. I kind of get the backtrolling outfit. I don't get when to use a drift setup as opposed to using an outfit setup with a spinner or spoon. I sense it has something to do with the depth of the river and the type of bottom and the lay of the bottom of the river. You folks are the experts; I'm not. Would you please straighten me out on this? Thanx.

Howdy, One of the main advantadge's of pulling plug's is the guy rowing get's to fish. A properly matched spoon or spinner can fish an incredible amount of holding water to get the aggresive fish. Watch your spoon all the way in to get a glimpse of a chaser. Don't pull the lure out of the water if you do see that, jig it or let it set down untill your sure it's back to the lie. You will catch this fish next cast, if you can control the adrenaline, and don't botch it. Drift gear has the ability to put your offer time after time into the fishes comfort zone, and gives you the most feel for those "I'm just a little whitefish" nibbles that start pounding when you lift up. Float's are the way to go in pocket's, and seams and run's of water that is to slow or swirly to drift without snagging. Enjoy the River!
