I am looking for a book or information regarding drift boat fishing the Pennisula rivers. I have an 18' Eastside (named Fishguts). I'm trying to find out if I can make it down the Sol Duc without getting killed. Looking for info on put in's, takeouts and difficulty of drifts.
Has anyone read Steve Probasco's Olympic Penninsula Rivers Guide? or do you know of a book which might have this kind of info.

If you have been down this river and are looking for a ride ...

common sense plays a big role here...you are asking because you've probably heard how hard the SolDuc is to row. My advice- don't find out the hard way. get in someone's boat who knows the river and spend at least one trip with them. It can't hurt...and going left (as you naturally would) when you should've gone right will! good luck & hope this saves your life...hahaha

I would think that it would make for a safer trip to get yourself a guide. No matter how good you think you might be they can show you the river and the holes. Most are willing to help if you just let them know what you need. Good luck.

Read the book.....but it won't get you down the river safely. It just doesn't have enough current information about the rapids and the specific rocks they contain. There is no room for errors on the river in many spots. Book a guide or wear a wetsuit

Every drift has a rapid! some drifts have one and some 20. Thats way more chances to screw up. How wide is the boat? That will matter to. An 18 has to be kinda wide! and at 5 to 6 boards theres not much room for error in some of the rapids. I,ll give ya a hint. Put in were the boards are measured the first time...Remember to scout when ya hear alot of raging noise...

An 18 footer??? Grand canyon dory ??? are boats this size common over there. I just looked out in the garage at my 16 foot alumaweld, added 2 foot to it in my mind and thought, damn, that boys arms must be huge.
