ok the debate with my fishin partners goes on but what does the B.B. think about which is better for driftin. The fixed or the sliding weight, I started with a fixed but then went to the sliding yet my some of my buddies insist fixed is best.

I like to use both at different times. I like to use a fixed weight when fishing pocket water, but prefer a sliding weight when fishing a longer run or drift or if I am boon-doggling.....just my 2 cents!

Different situations and riggings determine the lead setup. Each one has its own merits.
I usually run a slider with custom slinkies.

Here is a few the of different solid tie and slider riggings I have seen.

I use a fixed lead in small pocket water, or deeper runs with a lot of current. Slider in areas that are shallower with less current. The problem with a slider in heavy current areas is that with the belly in the line, sometimes the lead will end up a long way from the bait and hook setting is difficult.

Awnser for your ? schitzo. I prefer solid core directly to my snap swivel(no tubing) and good waders I got out of cabelas they are 5mm guide weight. These tend to be a little warm in summer so I have a pair of hodgman 3.5 mm for warmer days. Good Luck

I don't know how everyone else fishes, but when using fixed weight I tie on a dropper off of a three-way and then either put on a slinky by using a loop or crimp on hollow pencil lead. When using sliding weight I put on a snap swivel above the barrel swivel, to which I attach my leader. The lead is put on the snap swivel via a hole which is made with a set of driftmasters. Putting the weight directly on the mainline (like splitshot) seems silly cause if you get hung up, the whole thing is gone.

hey schitzo, as far as waders go check out my post from a few weeks back (I need new ones waders) I got a ton of replies all good,as far as fixed or sliding I tend to lean towards fixed ,it keeps me in direct contact with my bait or corkie i've used the slider just depends on water conditions..
