I wondered what everybody's opinion was on the subject of treble or single hooks. I find that i get lots more hook ups with trebles, but i land more with singles. The opposite seems to be true when trolling bait in saltwater. Thanks for any input.

I would say trebles hook more fish, but they are a real pain to take out when trying to release fish. I use both, when LEGAL to do so. That is my first check, if there is a closure on trebles. Then I look at water. If clear, small single hooks seem to work for me. I don't know about landing more or less with one or the other. I seem to lose or miss about the same.

Singles all the way. I think I get better hook penetration, and a single doesn't seem to give a fish leverage against other hooks. To explain what I mean, I seem to loose fish hooked with trebles when they roll or flop, and I think sometimes the unburied hooks, when pushed against the sides of a fishes mouth will help push the buries one out. My hook to catch ratio with spoons, spinners, and plugs increased dramatically when I changed everything to singles.

Hey now, I think someone needs to go back to school and learn to read again. It says just because I look big, dumb, and ugly, It does not (KEY WORDS THERE) mean I am. Any how, I agree about the fish being able to lever other hooks out. I have seen trebles wear a hole in the jaw more than a single does.

Didn't mean to offend any of you out there especially the "Big Jimmer". Just my sarcastic sense of humor getting the best of me I guess. One of my best friends just happens to be big, dumb(not really) and ugly and I like him all the more for it. But back to the main topic, my preference is single barbless hooks in almost all cases. If the fish happens to get away before I've got to handle it to remove the hook all the better. If they could just figure out a way to cnr ducks.

Hey CNR, I was not offended in the least. My humor is probably as warped as your's. As to catch and release ducks, I have seen it done. First you go to a park with lots of ducks around the fishing dock. Then take a small marshmellow and tie it securely to a trout rod and reel. Then flip it out in front of a duck. When the duck eats it just start pulling in slowly. DO NOT set the hook, this will result in a lost duck and VERY loud funny sound from the duck. I wacthed some kids do this a few years ago and laughed so hard I could not stand up to tell them to stop. Sorry to get off your subject David.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! I think that's illegal though. Maybe you should use duck in, like, the fog. Kinda Californiafied name. ------------------ Just because I look big, dumb, and ugly, doesn't mean I am. It means I can stomp you for calling me it!

Jimmer-Jimmer-Jimmer. Not exactly what I had in mind. When I get it figured out though I'll be able to retire. My pop used a similar tactic with corn at Greenlake in the early 60's when the Lab needed a little live bird training. He'd show up at the house (to us kids amazement) with three or four ducks contently eating corn on the floorboard of his old pickup truck. Adios.
