Can someone fill me in on why a lot of people who C&R wear a glove on the tailing hand? Does it give you a better grip? Doesn't it wipe the slime off? Is it just a fashion statement? Thanks

Good question. I am curious to see what the board says as I have always been warned not to wear a glove (especially wool) when doing CNR. I agree it would give better grip but seems like the slime loss would be extensive.

I dont think ya can beat wet bare hands. Even cotton is gonna stick to the slime but no way with wet bare hands. Its gotta be the best way for the fish if a picture is in order! which is almost always.

I just remembered seeing a pic of a guy in STS holding a steelie. The guy had on a fancy mesh glove that was clipped to his vest like a normal fishing accessory. I guess the idea was to reduce the contact of material to fish. I'm not really sure though. I heard somewhere that a glove actually reduced slime loss. I wonder if anyone who knows a lot about C&R studies can enlighten us?

I'm with Bob D on this one, I've always got my hands wet prior to handling a fish. What about some of these special mesh C&R Nets made by Loki and Frabil(?). I know Bob uses them, the fish don't get tangled up and just swim around in the net. You can keep the fish in the water, un-hook it and let it go fairly easily.
Just a thought...
