It was reported today in the Tacoma News Tribune that the Don Buchanan is getting hauled back into a Yakima court to face charges for SLAUGHTERING those two bull Elk at the feed station back in 95. It's about time our State pulles their head out and makes a stand. I know this is a fishing site, but I know alot of you hunt also. This is a giant step for us non-indian sportsman. Hopefully we can put a stop to the year-round SLAUGHTER of our game animals by our Treaty Indians. I urge all hunters to get involved and help stop off-reservation hunting. They already have 50% of our fish, hopefully they won't end up with half our Big-Game also.

Mac,

I am a big game hunter and know exactly what you are talking about. this topic has came up on this bord before. I have gone to some rallies and things for Tribal Abuse but I haven't gotten anything lately on how things are doing. This is good news to see the state doing something about it. not just doing something but bringing this one back up because it has been shot down by the feather heads so many times and it is an important piece in getting rid of the tribal abuse. Do you know of any phone numbers or e-mails we can use to encourage our officials on this one. I'm sure they will need it, this will probably be another long fieght. It's hard to say how much eleections will get in the way. If the media does their thing who knows how it will go. they will have all the bleeding hearts outraged that we are trying to do away with the indians "way of life". this is a hot topic for me so I won't get started. Just glad to hear the news and if you can could you keap us updated on the developments?

thanx,

Kinda interesting how Northwestern Washington indians think they have hunting rights to elk that weren't there until the 1920's. The Yakima and Colockum herds were both started by transplant from Yellowstone. Brought'em all the way by train. Ask people around Packwood about indians shooting(note: I didn't say HUNTING) elk. I realize this is a fishing BB, but the problem is EXACTLY the same; Indians abusing their "rights". As with all of society, it is a few bad apples giving a given group(indians) a bad name. However, just like the rest of society, the group as a hole needs to pay the price.

Maybe nothing will happen to them but you have to start somewhere.(babysteps) For anybody who wants to get involved please write or call END TREATY ABUSE P.O. Box 11187 Olympia, Wa. 98508-1187 or call 360-866-1793 its a great cause. Even it it means displaying a bumper sticker on your rig anything helps. I've even donated a little money for mailing costs to help get the word out. It's non-prophet org. I urge everybody who wants to continue hunting Elk and Deer in this state to do their part. Or you'll probably end up haveing to draw a permit just to hunt a few animals that are left.

BackLash,

You are so right about the planting of the elk!!! So many people have no clue that the indians are slaughtering those elk and they were never there 100 years ago for their ancestors to shoot. those are our elk. if they wanna hunt'em buy a state tag and hunt along with us. As for the dude getting off agian, I hope not but I allso know that our gov. will let him go because they are sceerd to stand up and fight them because of all the PC stuff. they feal that it will cost them an election. or because of all the money the tribes pump into their election they feal they are owned by the indians. As for the Packwood slaughter. I know exactly wha that was about and that it has moved to Mt St. Helens now with them being shot in GMU's that I know people who have had their truck searched by game wardens for driving in because it's no hunting anytime. but the indians can go in and slaughter herds and take what they want and leave the rest to rot( cows with calves undeveloped and calves shot for the sake of shooting them) No the average joe don't have a clue of what is realy going on. Just like the fish that are neted by the tons and dumped on back roads near the Nisqaully river. they let them rot. the only reason was they were not good enought to sell so they just net them and dump them so they don't get in their nets when they are after other species of fish or maybe they were looking for hens for eggs so they dump the bucks to rot. yes much the same. I better get off my soap box I will spend all night on this one. but the two are tied closely even though this is a fishing page everybody needs to know just how much the two have in common.
