Has anybody ever tried using a mixture of Borax and red jello as an egg cure? There's a guide up here who swears by it, but i've personally never had any luck with it.

Works great. The only way I've ever cured eggs.Just make sure you don't use the jell-o that has the sugar in it

What ratio of Borax to jello do you use?

There are many different recipes for curing eggs. My favorite is a slight variation of the recipe in the tips section of this site. When I'm lazy I use pro-cure. The jello colored eggs I have made are go like this. Split the skeins leaving membrane on both sides. Rub in whatever color jello you want to use, raspberry or cherry are good ones. Sprinkle non-iodized salt on both sides and let them drain and dry for a several hours. When they get kind of glazed, coat them with borax and put them in a glass jar. I use pint jars and layer the eggs in with borax between the glass and the layers of eggs. When the jar is almost full light a small peice of paper on the eggs and quickly put a sealing lid on the jar. This will vacuum seal the eggs and they will keep refridgerated up to a year ,so they say. I have never kept any that long, I always use them up. If I were you I would use the recipe in Bob's tip section before I messed around with the jello, just my opinion.
