I'm planning on heading to the Walla Walla river this weekend and was wondering if anyone is having any luck. I would appreciate any input.

I fish the WW on a weekly basis. Has been a little spotty this winter, but seems to be picking up lately. Got 3 last Sat. and 2 more on Sun. The water has been high and somewhat muddy. If it doesn't rain any more this week, should be ok by weekend. If there is any clarity to the water, they have been hitting spinners pretty well. Been using those and eggs. About equal success. Good luck. Remember to take the barbs off your hooks, they have been checking lately, and there are a fair number of wild fish in the river now.

Mike,

Stop. I'm having Walla Walla flashbacks from my teenage youth! Not that I'm heading over that way, but where are the fish holding? Above or below 9 mile? Higher up than Bergavens (sp?)? MacDonnel (sp?) bridge? Past the mouth of the Touchet or even Mill Creek? Not as far up as State Line?

Back when I fished the River in the late 80's, it used to always make the Top 20 list of best WA State steelhead rivers. Fortunately for me, most all of the river was posted No Tresspassing. It was (and probably still is) a hard river to find public bank access. Since I know/knew all the land owners, that wasn't a problem for me.

Plenty of pictures of Wally World fish are on my web ste:

Tight lines.

Parker,
I've seen your website. Lots of good photos. Anyhow, I do almost all of my fishing on public ground off Whitman Mission road and McDonald rd. Fish and Wildlife bought access. Lots of river to fish. From your site, I know you did most of your fishing lower, but I always figured it was to my advantage to get to know one stretch of river really well. I think I know every grass clump and rock. Fish are spread through most all of the river now as I get reports from people who fish lower, and those who know what they're doing are getting fish. Very little traffic this year for some reason. Ok with me. March is here, and those big number days should be starting.

Mike,

Let's take this off of the forumn. Send me some email at parker@u.washington.edu. I'll probably be back to W2 this spring and will definately do some fishing.
