It turns out that the Feds awarded the treaty indians 94.5% of the harvestable chinook in the columbia this year according to the Tacoma News Tribune.( I thought these fish were listed as endangerd or something?)And the Non-Indians get 5.5% of the fish. What's up with that? Who's ever calling the shots for the NMFS ought to be drug tested. The State is even Pissed off about this one and is thinking of hauling the NMFS to court. I'm tired of hearing about these fish being listed as threatend or endangerd and continueing to have a net fishery for them. For God sakes SHUT IT DOWN!!

Not only are the natives taking most of the Columbia River harvest fish, they will be taking most of the river access along with it. Seems they don't have enough dumping ground along the river, now we get to build additional In-lieu fishing sites along the river.
Sure wish our government cared for us so much.

The "quota" that the Native Americans take of the salmon in Washington is probably the only reason to live in the Great Central Valley of California. I fish the Feather, and there are no Native American nets. I understand the Klamath is a different situation.

That, sir, is the first good reason I've heard for living in California. But, it's a beauty!!!!

Hummmm.. 94.5 % plus 5.5 % thats pretty scary math. If I was a king I'd stay out in the ocean. Our indians here in Idaho don't have a net fishery either, but then again, we don't have any fish anymore. They do get to pack the truck full of beer and go snagging a good number of the few that are left however.

There is some info on harvest allocations of Columbia River spring chinook at www.newsdata.com/enernet/fishletter
The article is NMFS draws line in sand over spring chinook.

Its not just the indians that are the problem with netting. White man can't even keep his stupid nets out of the Columbia. Every year they get to net the last of February and the beginning of March. That just happens to be when the Big Pigs return to the Lewis river system. All the wild steelhead in the lower system of the Columbia are being slayed. Like they have a chance getting through the nets. KILL ALL NETTERS!!!

Hey, stlhdr1, if I read your posts correctly, you fish the Lewis while drunk, you fish private water in closed season, and now you want to KILL NETTERS. Maybe you'd be happier in another forum.

Hey guys, Yahoo here. This is to Dicks post up above. Now come on Dick its attitudes like yours that make people put up with crap because they dont have the balls and or energy to do anything about anything!!!! Now you tell me if you had something happen to a family member that was violent and you know who did it but the police couldnt DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT I bet you would find a way to go around the law and get that son of a bitch. Or would you just keep your complacent attitude. You see, the way i see it, these fish are my family members, in a wierd sort of way!!!!!

I have been with this from the start. Back when they first got the legal right to net. I saw Marlon Brando and Dick Gregory net with the Puyalup Tribe to start this whole thing off. I have been to more meetings and rallys over the years. THE FEDERAL GOVERMENT IS BEHINED THE TRIBES 100%. Now if YOU can figure out how to stop the netting let us know

Good morning gentlemen...I am posting a reply to this even though the majority of my posts concerning this matter are ignored by everyone but Bob. I also have been involved in this process for too long with no success for the most part. I was in a North of Falcon meeting in '94 when I realized this:
the Tribes were there with their Biologists and Attorney's...the commercials were there with their Biologists and Attorney's...and we the sportsman were there with nothing...we will lose this game everytime!!!

That is why I have formed the Washington Anglers Alliance...the primary goal is to achieve an organization with 100,000 members, be able to hire a full time Lobbyist, Attorney and Biologist. Right now it is Attorney battling over the Columbia...what Attorney is representing us?? You got it nobody...gee...wonder where we will end up on this one?

Bob has supported us with his presence and representing his client list, while the rest of you to the best of my knowledge...could be wrong...have ignored anything directed this way. If you are truely interested, go to: www.gamefishin.com/waa...this is our temp. webpage and our form of communication. Feel free to go the message board and make sure you sign up on the email list. Thanks again.

If we always do what we've always done, we will always get what we've always gotten
