After the Seahawks game on Sunday I decided to trade up from my older 46" rear projection Samsung HDTV...so after a bit of shopping around I found a 50" LG Plasma HDTV at a repair shop, only a few years old.

<= old TV in the background there wink

Went down and checked it out, and it looked great...so it joined the family, and will have a couple of weeks to settle in before the Smoka Bowl wink

Picture is great, sound is ok...but no worries about the sound since it was immediately plugged into my serious surround sound system wink

One problem, though...I couldn't get my universal remote to program to run it...as a matter of fact, I have two of them and I couldn't get either of them to work.

This sucks...and though it's a used TV, it wasn't exactly cheap, so I wasn't stoked about looking into getting the infrared sensor replaced.

Did a little reading online about IR sensors, and found out that they aren't that expensive, or that hard to replace...but...

The first few "how to fix your own TV" sites that I went to all had TV techs chiming in on this issue, and every one of them suggested doing this first: find the "remote in" plug in the back of the TV, get an earphone jack, and treat that remote in plug like a $22 whore.

I found the plug, found an earphone jack, and shoved it in and out of the plug 50 times in about 30 seconds.

Picked up my remote, dialed in the very first code for LG HDTV's...and it fired right up.

Yay InterWebz. smile

Fish on...

Todd

I'll bring it over and we'll get both TV's running, one facing the kitchen, and one facing the couch.

Fish on...
