going north around middle of july, only because i can. fishing for reds, only because i can. kenai, only, well you get the picture. any thoughts, thanks in advance.... the doc

Reds ... on the Kenai ... in the middle of July ................................................... I can think of a couple of things: wear a hardhat and safety goggles; fish with no lighter than 20lb. line; and don't spend any money on 'red' or 'coho' flies - bare hooks do the exact same job every bit as well! Have fun

PS - Never touch a red until you've knocked it on the noggin because you may find yourself connected to a thrashing red by someone else's hook!

If you have access to a boat, cut down on the zoo by heading upriver from Sterling and fishing the gravel bars between there and Skilak Lake. Less chance of someone elses 2/0 octopuss ending up in your ear. Scenery is nicer also.

Here's the terminal rigging that is "no-miss" for the Kenai. 2/0 gammy tied on 20 lb Maxima, slide down a tiny corkie, then slide down another 2/0 to top it off. Don't forget sunglasses.
