I thought I'd post this up for those that have used this launch in the past but haven't been by there recently.
I drive by this every day on my way to work and watched the rehab work going on throughout the winter.
They put in a new head as well as a concrete ramp and paved parking.
I noticed Discover Pass is required. Nice upgrades, hopefully some other launches that also need it will get the same upgrades in the future.

Sky-Guy....no dock, which is too bad. I've seen a couple yahoos tying off their boat to the fence rail while they go park their car...good times!

How they could remodel that ramp and not put a small dock in with capacity for at least one or two boats is beyond me..
I know a lot of old fellers who cannot use this ramp because they cant access their boat after getting it in the water. This forces them to drive all the way to Magnusen, and sucks because of the limited access to the lake.

Good. Now I can go back to flushing my motor there pissing off all the jet skiers

No dock is gay....................

I liked it better when it was all dirt and I could launch anywhere I wanted and park sideways or in front of others or half on the street!

A dock would be packed solid with jet skis just campin' out. This would lead to fights, loitering, pregnancies, mopery and general shenanigans. Get in and GFTO!

My first visits to that launch were in the 60's, they had the pits and starting line for the slough races there. They started there and raced up river to a certain point, then back down. From every class of small outboard to Indian type racing canoes, and a "run what ya brung" class, it was a great time.

Can you imagine 10 or so small hydros in each group racing up river, it sounded like a swarm of very loud and angry mosquitoes.

One friend had a brick dropped from a bridge go through the front deck of his hydro.

Those slough races were a tradition for Kenmore until 1976.

"This was before Seattle had any football, soccer, basketball or any kind of sports teams; this was our sport team, this was the event of the year," said Culley, 69. "Thousands of people came from all over the Northwest to participate and watch the race. It was a social event; held right in our backyards and it was the most exciting time of the year for most of us."

The Kenmore Hydroplane Cup event returns in two weeks. The event will be held on April 5 at the north end of Lake Washington at the newly remodeled Kenmore Boat Launch. The timed exhibition race will feature a variety of boats including two cylinder and three-and-up cylinder boats, Native American war canoes, junior hydroplanes and RC hydroplane demonstration. Competitors will race one or two boats at a time up the Sammamish River, navigate around the challenging oval course and back to the Kenmore Boat Launch. The racing features competitors from the Seattle Outboard Association.

"This feels like revving an old football team," Culley said. "Some of us can play again, some of us can't. But all of us are thrilled it's happening again."

The original race, known as the slough race, was popular between 1928 and 1976 and drew crowds of spectators between 40,000 and 80,000. The race stopped after more and more houses were built along the river and the waters changed.

"Up until 1964, we could test a boat up and down Lake Washington with ferocity," Culley said. "Now we can't go faster than 6 mph. So we had to stop because of the times; we didn't want to stop, but sometimes these things just happen."

I'm shoddy too.
I did all the concrete for Lakeside's Hillsboro Plant and the footings for the baghouse at their Longview plant.

We used to sit up by Redmond (with a cooler of beer of course) on that long straight away and watch them hit the sand bar going flat out.
We would waved them over and they would ignore thinking we were setting them up....I guess we were!
Those races were a blast!

Yes, they were a blast - big stuff for its time! We'd watch a bit further up the slough where there were some bends. Some of those hydros didn't seem to turn too well. Saw one take on a cottonwood tree all by itself and lose big time.

Then went to college and graduated to the Diamond Cup and Tri-Cities with the big boys. Man could those Allisons and Rolls engines cause the beer to foam.

Funny story...
There were some pretty good sized footings with hefty, cast in anchor bolts for the main scale.
It's almost like a bridge.
The big spread footings were located in an asymmetrical pattern.
Lakeside was using a supplier and installer from out of state.
Everything showed up and they started craning in sections onto my work.

They get to the main span, set it down and the goddam thing was overhanging my spread footings by some 4 feet.
Big fukkup !

So they come to me and tell me that I have a big problem with my big fukkup.
So well after I call the engineer and my office with the bad news, their foreman comes into the office.
"Sorry dude, we fukked up. We placed that section 180 out of phase. Everything fits."

Thankfully, I've never had a real, big fukkup....knock on wood.
