Why are all the fish populations declining? Why is there less and less land to hunt and fish? Name an environmental problem or almost any problem and the root of that problem in one word is OVERPOPULATION!

The earth can only support so many people and I'm afraid we are well over the limit. The worst part is there is no end in sight. The World population continue to grow at an amazing rate.

I believe the more children you have the more taxes you should pay. Instead the present law rewards you a deduction for every child. The next time you decide to give to charity to save the environment think about the root of the problem.

Howdy,
While I agree the huge influx of people (especially in Wa.) is putting the environment in a precarious position. The problem's of the East coast should be able to be avoided. The number of eager Steelheader's make C&R the most feasible and fair way to deal with the limited run's we now enjoy. I feel with our understanding of the resource, that soon the corner will be turned and walking on the back's of thousand's of salmonid's won't be a folk tale. And don't forget that a single individual can make all of humanity richer forever, with an invention, idea ect. So as long as the parent's can take care of a child, we should welcome at least that potential. See ya

Sorry guys but I think the real problems with the fish run in the north west is simply this... The people that made the laws and passed the bills about 30-40 years ago had no way of knowing what the results would be down the road. The northwest had few people when the damns were built and even fewer when the indian treatys were signed. There is no way that we can expect that less people will want to come live here.. ( native of Idaho.. talk about influx and change!!) But at the same time, now that we know what happened to the fish.. ( thats a fact )WE DON'T DO ANYTHING TO CHANGE IT !!! Fish can and would come back if everyone could understand thats its the year 2000 and we did not do a very good job a while back with understanding the results of our actions.. The new people did not kill all the runs your dad and grandpa did!!

Thanks for the history lesson.....but the bottom line is....what are we going to have to do now, year 2000, to try and get back to the "old days"....I live in western WA, have watched as the forests continue to be cut, gillnet fisheries(indian and non) continue, pollution is a never ending problem...change is sooooooooo slow....seems no one wants to really tackle the problems. Wish I had the time to wait for the answers but at 59 1/2, time grows shorter.....faster!!!!

B-run you hit it on the button. Just like the Boldt decission had no idea how good electronics would get. Tech. changes and laws should be changed accordingly...My 2
