1. Is there sturgeon in the snowqualmie river?, if so how to catch?

2. How much line should I have on a spinning reel for steelhead?, and of what test?.Thanks,

SNOWCHUCK, I DO NOT KNOW ABOUT THE BIG FISH IN THE SNOW, BUT AS FOR LINE AND HOW MUCH ON A SPINNING REEL.
I USE MANY TYPES OVER THE YEARS, MY FAV WAS AN OLD MITCHELL 300, I ALWAYS KEPT IT FULL OF 8 POUND, ABOUT 225 YARDS FIT THE SPOOL REAL GOOD.
I ALWAYS FISHED WITH LIGHT MAIN LINE, AS WAS NOT CONVERNED ABOUT LOSSING TERMINAL GEAR IT I GOT HUNG UP. WHO KNEW, I WAS A KID BACK IN THEM DAYS. did not know or care on cost as terminal gear 20+ years ago was cheap.

As far as spinning reels go use the Shimano stradic or symmetre in the 2000 size. One of the best lines for spinning reels is Magnathin by stren. Use that in 10 in summer and 12 in winter for mainline. But for leader always use 8lb Maxima Ultragreen. The reels range from $75 for the symmetre and about $129 for the stradic. If you really want to step up to the plate, the best I've ever used is the Shimano Sustain.

I have caught Sturgeon up to Snohomish, don't think the Snoqualmie has any but you never no . Your line question depends on different things, conditions,time of year,river,pole type and length,ect. Normally 6 to 8lb in Summer 10 to 12lb in Winter when conditions warrant it. 120 to 200 yds of line. I've tried lots of different lines and found the new Gamakatsu line excellent for spinning reels.

I agree with Swami, found Sturgeon up to Snohomish, never caught or seen one in the Snoqualmie.

Just a sidelight. Last week in the Tacoma paper, there was a story that - I believe it was a fish biologist - was out running in Puyallup and found a dead sturgeon under a bridge or next to a road overpass that goes across that drainage ditch that drains out of the parking lot next to the fairgrounds on the roller coaster side. I believe that ditch drains into Clark's Creek, which drains into the Puyallup. If it was in that ditch, I can see why it died - it's notoriously polluted. The story included a comment that sturgeon populations were growing and that even though biologists don't believe the fish spawn elsewhere than in the Columbia and one other river in the state, they are being found to be expanding their ranging territory. (I believe this was being said in relation to white sturgeon). I have heard rumors that sturgeon have been caught in test fisheries in the Puyallup.
