I could have written your first two sentences, word for word.
I watch Brazil rook Croatia today but, in the end, a win is a win. USA looks good and I can't wait to see Dempsey and Yedlin play again.
Life is good!
P.S. Moday is Ghana! Go USA!

soccer requires fans to pay attention all the time while for American Football you can have severe ADD and still follow along.

futbol is boring, you know that.
That's what I've been trying to tell ya. American Football Down, Set, Hut, Hut, Hut- play last maybe 8 seconds, pause, pause, pause--commercial break, stop the clock, constant subs. 54 man roster. WOW Other than the dives like I said--the soccer athlete would run circles all day around an American Football player...look at the size of the field, very seldom subs, no clock stoppage no commercial breaks.. anyways haters hate World Cup makes up for Hockey being over

US scored their first goal against Ghana :29 into the match today I watch exactly "zero" soccer except for very rarely, and only during the World Cup. I'll watch the US play if they are on while I am working, but I won't change any plans to make sure I'm around to watch it. Fish on... Todd

What a game! Dempsey scoring in :32 rufk! I hope Altidore can walk it off. Seems unlikely. I was really hoping to see Yedlin in the game. If you couldn't get excited about that one, you definitely should not watch any more. Or bother telling me/us how boring you think Soccer is.
Germany beating Portugal 4-0 was quite a shock. Perhaps we will make it out of the Group!

It's rather important that the facts are clear when we're bashing and glorifying the various professional sports. I guess it's a good thing then that fat football players only have to play 8 seconds or so out of each minute of the game. I expect someone will soon calculate how much the average NFL player is paid per second of actual playing time per season.

I'd last 4, just because it would take them 2 milliseconds to run me down after I beat feet.

That was crazy. Ghana played three times better... Our D was horse [Bleeeeep!] lucky twenty times over. They played like we weren't even on the field. We had four shots on goal and scored two, Ghana dominated the midfield and controlled the front on a level of play like I have never seen. Wow. Haters hate away. I absorbed that game as if my kid was out on the field. Ghana was as dirty as they were technical and that guy should have been carded for the high kick to Dempsey's face. I am left with respect for their genius and a resentment of their brutality. BUT A win is a win! Go USA!!!

Played professionally for quite a while and love the sport. But, I'm having a tough time watching the game anymore because of all the BS these players pull on the field. It's really sickening the way they go down almost every time they are touched. Get kicked in the ankle, grab your knee. Slapped on the shoulder, grab your face. Biggest problem is this had made its way into youth soccer. Constantly trying to fool the refs and get the other players carded. Pretty disgusting and its pushing me away from being a fan. Players who play thru hard challenges are never rewarded, and players who go down like a $5 hooker get the calls.
FIFA needs to review these games and start carding players post game for their actions. An accumulation of cards leads to suspension. It's not just FIFA, it's the football associations for each countries professional leagues. They should review the matches after the fact and start penalizing players who embellish on the field.
Or, force these idiots to watch the NHL. Maybe then they'd be embarrassed for acting like such pussies.

I like that the NHL can give a penalty for a hit or whatever and still penalize a person if they fake it going down.

NHL did deal with embellishment with costly penalties. Along with the "code" that you will pay the price if you put one of our players in the box for your dive.

During the pounding of Cameroon by Croatia (4-0), I could not believe the way some of the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon acted. A well deserved red card was issued after a clear cheap shot when a LIon player elbowed a Croatian player hard in the back near his shoulder. A few minutes later a Lion player head butted a team mate. WTF! Why even show up if this is the way you're going to act? I think I'll burn my Lion's jersey that I given by local when I was there.

Netherlands dominated Austrailia
I watched Russia play Korea just for fun. Korea surprised me actually- I thought height would be more of a factor.
Just finished England vs Uruguay. They were both brilliant, crisp and unforgiving. It could have been anyone's game and I'd fear USA playing either.
Can't wait for Sunday!

Bradley shouldnt have missed that pass in the midfield. He was off his game today for sure.
Yedlin was great and the team as a whole played great.
Sometimes the score just doesn't reflect the effort or talent.
Disappointing.

Well that was brutal. Game won for last :30 and our goalie got complacent.
Tough way to tie a game in extra minutes. Didn't help that Bradley played a terrible game, missing a wide open shot and a lot of sloppy passes as well as giving away the ball that lead to the last goal. Cameron had his moments as well. Nice seeing the Sounder duo contribute.

Gutted Fantastic to see Yedlin having an impact! WTF Bradley? Losing the 2 points is sickening This is pretty much secondary - My wagers were spot on - Usa $20/60 Usa 2-1 $1/12 Usa come from behind $1/14 Usa win both score $2/12 Usa and > 2 1/2 $10/50 so lose $34 instead of win 148 on buzzer beater.

There is no redhook bracket....we will likely play Belgium, and the winner that game will likely play Germany. Germany is on the other side of the bracket. The only way we would play them again is for the Cup or in the third place match. Have a look here ...(scroll down a bit) http://www.fifa.com/worldcup/matches/index.html

The should have put Yedlin in sooner and subbed Bradley out. Bradley didn't make a decent play in the entire game for the second time. It is also very frustrating to see Dempsey left alone up front... It just isn't his strength.
Since the game didn't count, other than accepting a loss, I suppose it was smart to sit back and play defensively for the whole game. By keeping their points down we stand to gain position. One of those situations where it isn't about the battle, it is about the war. I sincerely like Klinsmann... That just didn't seem like the same team that just played Portugal (with the exception of Bradley) and in my opinion, we could have won.

Losers bracket is now called knockout round? A sprinter doesn't have to win all the heats to win the gold. He just has to qualify for the finals.

Bradley may not have done much, but he's one of the few players who keeps the other teams honest. Not a huge fan of his work rate but he has the skill to open up the other team. You can put someone out there who can run around real fast but just like my dog, they can't play soccer worth a schit.

Yes sir. We have a world class team right in our own backyard. I get just as tired of hearing about Donovan as I do Bradley. Over and over how great they are. Blah. Blah. Blah. I will say I have a newly earned respect for Beckerman though. He has been very effective and consistent... and that from a Galaxy player. My favorite team to hate.

Bradley will ALWAYS be the guy who cost us the Portugal game. 50 years from now , they will still be talking about it. He needs to do something heroic to be forgiven.

MLS is a second rate league. Can't even win or compete for our version of the champions league. Soccer on field turf is hardly considered soccer. Put grass in the stadiums then we can watch the real thing.

Agreed, but the grass doesn't make the man and this is the league we have.

It's a good league and I think they've done it right this time. Every team has a good following and the game is getting better. But, not playing on grass is a huge drawback. It's not the same game, thru balls just roll out of bounds. Hopefully some day we'll have grass in the Clink.

I can understand artificial turf on a field that gets close to daily use or multiple games on weekends, like high school stadia. But the Clink has about 10-15 football games and 15-20 futbol games in a whole year. Very little in the dead of winter. Why is it not grass?
Grass fields would also be safer for players and extend their careers.

Typical game for the US. Work harder than the other team, stay in the game, and give yourself a chance. Rarely pretty but always competitive.

For those of you still hating on the game, you are still here. For those of us who cared , it hurt. Imagine what it would have felt like if the 49ers had lost the Super Bowl. (oh wait ) Wondo hits that shot 9 out of 10. The other trucking 9 don't matter. We had our chances. The whole world has seen Yedlin. I wish I had his future. (and not my past) (zhit any 20 year olds future ) And the other Kid? Julian Green. First touch in a World Cup Match is a Goal!?! Jurgen was right. We were not ready to win the World Cup. But 2018? Starts now!

I thought there was a player and a "mafia" type killed the player because of a botched play that the Mafia guy lost mucho deniro.
What would North Korea do if they had a team in WC and they lost? NK would shoot some missiles into the ocean, Un would stomp his feet.

Andres Escobar from Columbia scored an own goal for the USA and paid for it with his life. Great football player and by all accounts, a better human. If you get a chance to watch the ESPN special about the Escobars, watch it. All about football and the drug cartels in Columbia. Edit: Andres wasn't a mafia type. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/footbal...y-of-death.html

Howard did have a great game yesterday but Belgium isn't looking at it that way. They are talking about their piss poor finishing. Most of those saves are pretty routine for a world class keeper. Some games those shots are where your hands and feet can get to them, other games they are just a couple inches out of your reach. Lots of good saves, but the quality of a couple Keller saves in this 1998 match make it still probably the best performance in US soccer history. Keller 1998

I think Tim Howard is awesome, and it would have been a blowout if he had played anywhere near average.
I do not find setting a record for the most saves in a World Cup(tm) game to be anything other than a very dubious distinction. All that proves is that our defense sucks and let Belgium roll right in on our 18 yard line all day long.
It's like back in the day when the Mariners set record after record for turning the most double plays in a season...because they allowed a shitton more baserunners than any other team. When you allow a baserunner with less than two outs almost every inning you better set a record for turning double plays or you will lose 16-1 every game.
Same as kickers kicking six field goals in a football game...just proves your offense can't get in the endzone.
I enjoyed the WC this year, and watched all the games, including many of the games that didn't feature Team USA...a very, very busy work week kept me in the shop all day and the TV was there, too...so there ya go.
Fish on...
Todd

Some observations from a futbol fan:
I would have never thought the USA could get out of the Group Stage without Eddie Johnson, Landon Donovan, and Jozy Altidore. But we did. That's a huge accomplishment by itself.
The USA played it's best when it was down a goal - against Portugal for 65 minutes, and against Belgium in the last 15 minutes. The USA played poorly when it was up a goal (vs Ghana for 83 minutes) or even (Germany and Belgium).
All four teams the USA played were better technically. They won one game on grit and luck (Ghana). They tied one game they should have won (Portugal). And they were clearly inferior to the Krauts and the Waffles in the last two games.
The coach was right that the US could not win the WC this year. They are not at that level. But he was wrong to leave Landon and Eddie behind. They didn't have a replacement for Jozy when he was injured, which Eddie could have done, and their midfield was a mess without Landon as a stabilizing force. Michael Bradley was a disappointment. Without his leadership and without Landon, playing a possession game through the midfield was not going to happen. And it didn't.
Tim Howard is the best keeper on the planet. The USA's defense makes sure of that (per Todd's observation). He won't get bored back there...
We need more players like Fabian Johnson and Jermaine Jones. Both were beasts. Jones was our best player who can't use his hands.
I wish Clint D. displayed more emotion and teamwork than he does. Seems like he's there to help himself, but nobody else. He might get more crosses into the box if he did.
The future of USA soccer is bright. Most of Jurgen's personnel decisions were for the next WC (2018), not this one. I'm optimistic for the future.

Thanks for putting that up, Todd. That was great. Yea, Brazil stunk up the place today. They allowed goals in a World Cup on their home turf.

Lot of long faces on the beach at Copacabana today.
What are the chances that the Netherlands upsets Argentina today?
I'd say pretty damned low...and I think Argentina is the team that has a chance of stopping Germany.
That one goal loss to Germany by the US team is looking pretty good now, eh?

Todd Difference is Brazil could beat Germany if they showed up to play. US has no chance no matter how well they play. Only way we beat Germany is if they overlook us. Brazil/Germany game was unlike anything I've ever seen in soccer. Brazil threw in the towel at the national anthems. A lousy national team can play with a great team by playing solid defense and wanting to be there. Brazil showed nothing. Most of the goals were from passing back to a wide open player inside the box. Nobody marked their player.

Pornhub asks users to stop posting videos of Germany [Bleeeeep!] Brazil
By Sean O'Neal @seanoneal Jul 9, 2014 3:01 PM
Appropriately enough for nasty things happening around a cup, Germany’s crushing, 7-1 defeat of Brazil quickly made its way to Pornhub, prompting the adult site to beg for less for the first time in porn history. Highlight clips from yesterday’s World Cup match—most of them involving Germany’s Die Mannschaft going balls-deep on Brazil’s waiting goals an impressive three times in 76 seconds—quickly began popping up on Pornhub, under titles like “Young Brazilians get [Bleeeeep!] by entire German soccer team.”
Unfortunately, that gag soon got in the way of the site’s preferred type of gags, prompting its spokesperson, Pornhub Katie (Oh, of the Connecticut Pornhubs?), to plead for decency from users of its masturbation movies.
Of course, it’s hard to tell whether these videos were really uploaded before or only after Pornhub Katie’s quip, because I’m at work right now, and there’s no way I’m looking at Pornhub, even for “research.” But the important thing is these pranks have since been removed, at last returning dignity to Pornhub. And now Brazilians can feel safe in returning to another site where they’re never going to score.
***************
That right there...is some funny schit, I don't care who you are.
Fish on...
