what's the trick to catching coastal spring chinook (besides netting like them indians do). is it spinners, pulling plugs, casting plugs, throwing bait and where do you find these fish laying? ANY OF YOUR WISDOM WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. HOW ABOUT SOME ADVISE FROM "THE BIG ONE". YOU CATCH A LOT OF THEM HOH SPRINGERS, DON'T YOU?

Sloth- Before Bob & others give you more localized tips, allow me to direct you to a lenghty tech report on fishing for coastal sringers on our BB (so I won't have to type it all over again- I just wrote it up today). Access www.ifish.net and scroll down the right side a bit to click on the new Ifish Discussion Board. From there click on the Reel Truth BB, then on "Tips For Tillamook & Coastal Springers" by RT. While it is oriented toward that area, I think the tech.s within that post will be good for most coastal area springer fishing in Oregon & Washington. The first half is about saltwater & tidewater fishing, & the latter part is about fishing n the rivers. Good luck, Steve Hanson

Sloth, The Hoh and the Duc fish like night and day for springers because of the usually differing levels of water clarity for each. The Duc will be crystal one day and on that same day the Hoh will be puked because of the spring melt-off. For the Duc I'd fish with a diver and sandshrimp. Metallic blue is a good color this time of year for this river. Fish the Hoh with more traditional king gear. This includes Vibraxes, bouncing gear and K-15's with bait wraps. Oh yeah, don't forget the Hoh is closed (and the Duc is S-L-O-W).
