I thought all this increased drilling and pipelines were all so we could have lower priced gas at home?
Yeah...right.
Same as if the XL pipeline gets built...oil straight to Louisiana, then straight to Asia from there...and the price of our domestic fuel continues to rise.

Next time I hear some politician whining about US energy independence being a reason to drill for oil in some pristine environment or building a new pipeline I will know he is a corporate whore for one or another bloated oil corporation looking to increase the bottom line by exporting American oil to the world market. Lower fuel costs or energy independence for Americans is not the least of concern........but I knew that already.

Energy independence is the number one national security issue.
Shipping our energy to Asia runs directly counter to that, no matter who does it...just make sure when people start talking about "jobs", "energy independence", and they vote for or work for those who will ship the oil/gasoline/natural gas right out of the country that you tell them that they are liars.
Because that is exactly what they are.

Exporting oil is not inherently bad...but supporting pipelines and increased drilling to "lower prices" and "create jobs" here in America is a baldfaced lie...it's to make money, doesn't create schit for jobs, and does not lower prices in the least.

Yer right as usual Todd , making money does not create jobs. Your president has proven that all you have to do is fire up the printing presses and inflate equities . I think selling oil actually creates one or two jobs and the more you sell the more jobs it creates.

Not to mention the environmental impact!
Today's oil fields is tomorrow's super fund site!
But hey this way the oil barrons and the enviro whackos can get rich.

Fargo having 60k open positions and N Dakota having 2% unemployment = what? I'd say that equals good news for North Dakota. Call me selfish, but I'm more interested in what it all adds up to for Washington.

It all boils down to this - I'm right, everyone else is wrong, and anyone who disputes this is clearly a dumbfuck.

Not much oil production in WA, but coal from MT and WY would have created jobs in Whatcom County
Coal doesn't create jobs. Demand for coal creates jobs. Coal exporters aren't creating anything except wealth for their shareholders. Joe Blow in the market to buy energy creates jobs related to coal mining/shipping/export/etc. It might be nitpicking, but it is a significant difference - like the difference between 'demand' and 'quantity demanded'.

Fargo having 60k open positions and N Dakota having 2% unemployment = what? I'd say that equals good news for North Dakota. Call me selfish, but I'm more interested in what it all adds up to for Washington. Not much oil production in WA, but coal from MT and WY would have created jobs in Whatcom County if the city council didn't put the coal port on hold. From what I've read, the billionaire Steyer (who made his billions in coal and gas hedge funds), poured a couple hundred thousand dollars into the city council races to get people unfavorable to that port elected. No jobs was a direct result. Things may have changed since I read that, so feel free to correct me if it's wrong. It's easy for someone like you who doesn't live in Whatcom County to decide what's best for the locals. The truth is, the terminal won't actually create many jobs. Some estimates I've seen have projected less than 2 dozen new jobs being created. Most of the labor would be brought in from other areas, similar to the way refineries operate. Ever been downtown when a train rolls through? Now multiply that by 10. In order to accommodate a steady stream of trains, the City of Bellingham would have to revise many of the RR crossings because traffic could deadlock. This will cost millions that the taxpayers, who will not benefit from a terminal, must pay. Regardless, residents of Bellingham and Whatcom County in general are highly opposed to a terminal and we essentially voted against more development. Sometimes what city or county residents want should have priority over what a coal company wants, and priority over people who think they know what's best for us when they live 1,000 miles away.
