This morning I went to let out my 3 pet goats from their locked shed and saw that the metal gate to their pasture was bent over, some of the fencing was also bent, the two doors to their sheds were tore up but in place because of a section of rebar that I run along the bottom. One of the 16 X 20 side windows that had been left open for ventilation had its screen ripped off. I called the goats, no answer. Not sure what to expect I called Fish & Game and they arrived. Two goats in the shed unharmed, one missing....125 lbs. We found the gut pile 40 yards away and the officer found the carcass further down the ravine. The bear had stuck his head and possibly front legs in the window (five feet off the ground) and pulled the goat out with his jaws. Two other goats in Fall City were killed the past two days, plus chicken coops destroyed. I didn't hear the commotion due to having the window AC on during the night. Even my neighbors dog didn't hear anything. This bear is hunting big game and dangerous. Thought those in the area should know. Snake

Worst bear year in my 25 years in the valley. I had to educate a young one getting into the horse food. He did it in the middle of the day and thought he would peep in the kitchen window. A rubber blunt it the ass as he was shoulder deep in the grain bin worked. Hate to do it but manners are manners.

Steelspanker,
I once saw a Grizzly a few miles from Lk Wenatchee. I called it in to WDFW and a week later they called me back and confirmed it was a sow with cubs feeding on road kill. Since I hike that area I asked if I should treat it as Grizz country. She told me to treat anything north of I-90 as Grizz country. That was about 20 years ago. I haven't seen on e since.
Evo, Cats, no matter how big, don't break into things. Bears on the other hand love busting up sh!t.

Black Bears are freakishly strong. They are also ominivores and opportunistic feeders. In the spring they'll eat cambium before the berries come in, then salmon berries, and fawns and elk calves. Blackberries and grasses next through summer and anything they can find in Early fall, including salmon and standing corn.
They'll also kill and eat any animal they can catch from mice to young cows if they come across them.

Update: Game officer staked out carcass for several hours yesterday on two occasions...no luck. They brought in culvert trap and used carcass for bait....no luck overnight. Put my two remaining goats in a portable dog kennel in my garage....safe. They won't go near their shed, can only imagine what it was like for them. Bear is probably this one....less than half a mile away: http://www.livingsnoqualmie.com/aggressi...ills-livestock/The bear is still out there. The game officer basically said what Dogfish has been saying but he's never seen or heard of how it removed the goat through the window.

Sorry about your goat. That sucks. +1 what Dogfish said. BB's will eat ANYTHING they can get their paws on including yearling Elk - which are a hell of a lot larger than a goat. Or the tube of toothpaste that you forgot to put in your hang bag. They don't care. They can easily scale and climb and are pretty smart at figuring out how to extract a meal from man-made structures. Grizzlies like to kill and bury their subjects for a bit before coming back later to dine. BB's will dig right in and start eating, even while the subject is still alive. Play dead with a Grizz and fight like the dickens with a BB.
Amazing amounts of scat this year on my hiking / fishing trails in the Monroe / Sultan area. Sultan Basin is lousy, lousy with bears this year. Lots of cubs around. Stay alert and bring a "little friend" for backup.

It takes me an average of 45 hours of effort to pattern and kill a black bear. Trail cams are your friend. Action 3 days in a row, it is time to pack a rifle into the woods. Not surprised he had no action.

Trail cams are up. The bear trap this morning is empty again. Game and Fish will take the trap out tomorrow morning, but may reset again later in the week. I've been doing some research on black bears....they're bad asses. I fish, but may take up bear hunting too.
