So when the boat launch at Point No Point shut down in 2002, I participated in meetings shortly thereafter to re-establish a launch there. It is a great, centrally located water access to PNP, Pilot Point, Possession, Mutiny and Useless Bays, etc. Point No Point. I also see benefit having recreational boaters there for emergency response. Last year, there were 2-3 events, with an average of 1 per year. User traffic is increasing at the park, and so water emergencies can be expected to increase as well. The recreational and rescue needs are there.
So, in 2003 there were meetings to plan "on a fast track" and funds were approved. Then, DNR and Kitsap County SEPA planning "EXPERTS" screwed the whole thing up for so long, that the approved grant money expired, and they had to start over again. (How much did that all cost with zero produced?)
Today, I applaud the current Corps, WDFW Region 6 Michelle Culver and crew, and Commissioner Rob Gelder, poggie club and all for continuing the cause. The paved lot is in, bathrooms in, grass-seeded overflow parking, LOOKS GREAT, but no launch (guess who won't sign off). The project ends at the high tide line, and the ramp is supposed to be ready next year. ANOTHER YEAR?
I'm 52. This has taken 12 YEARS and over $2 million to do. I've lived in and fished Area 9 for 15 years. If I fish another 20 years, the project has taken 35% of my fishing life to occur. What a wasteful, unproductive system.
Rant over.
