Quinault National Fish Hatchery Free Fishing Day Moves to Aberdeen
Free fishing day at Quinault National Fish Hatchery, scheduled for June 3, has been canceled in the wake of the May 21 fire.
But area youngsters won't lose their anticipated fishing opportunity, thanks to a joint effort by staff from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife, Washington Dept. of Fish & Wildlife, QIN, and volunteers from the Aberdeen Wal-Mart and the GH Chapter of Trout Unlimited. All they have to do is move a few miles down the road to Aberdeen.
Starting @ noon, Saturday, June 3, and continuing until 3:00 p.m. or until the fish are gone, youngsters 12 and under can try their luck at hooking some of 1,000 fish originally grown for the now canceled event in an artificial pond erected by Trout Unlimited in the parking lot of the Aberdeen Wal-Mart. Volunteers from Trout Unlimited and the Aberdeen Wal-Mart will be standing by to provide fishing gear and assistance. Each child will be allowed two fish. There is no charge for the event.
Free Fishing Day has become an anticipated outing in the Quinault area and often attracts hundreds of people who come to watch local youngsters line up for a chance to take home two of the eight-ten inch fish. The cancellation is a one-time event and plans will begin soon for the return of the event to the hatchery next year.
