Has anybody fished the Green river near Flaming Geyser lately?

I fished it on 6/11/00. Got several good hours of fly casting practice in. That's about it.

That place is no good. Too many people and not enough fish.

Fished near in Kent near the Meeker bridge and caught 2 steelies about 5 lbs each. I think there are more here but they don't want you to fish on the banks do to the willow tree protection.

Yeah, it's crazy but the actually have signs on the jogging/golfers trials stating no walking along banks to protect the willow trees (trespassing keep off in big letters). I was walking there one day and saw a fisherman with some steelies on his stringer. They were also wild not stock since all the fins were in tack. He told me that you can keep anything in this river (no release of steelheads of any type). Hope he is right.

I went out by Palmer and got skunked. I guess the fish aren't that far up yet.

No he is not right!!! Get a copy of the regulations (Fishing) There is no native Summer Run Steelhead in the Green. If you see an infraction if it is possible take down lic. plate # and call the State Patrol. They are alot faster than the Fish and Game people!!!

Actually there is a small run of native summer fish in the Green but you can't keep any natives until July 1st to protect the downstream native winter fish, which those fish probably were.

I believe they are summer fish that have managed to spawn on there own and produced some offspring that have made it back to the river.I realize that they originally came from plants, but if you catch one you know they weren't raised in a hatchery.

Jig,
Now that may be true. It wouldn't surprize me one bit. I have caught some mighty nice summer runs out of the Green.(upper teens)

Difference in lingo fellas. Natives are genetically pure. Jigman, the fish you are refering to are considered "wild."

I too question the validity of protecting the willows. Sounds like a good enforcement tool, though. If you can't ticket the poachers for targeting kings, then you can get them for trespassing....
