By that I mean clam shovel. Yeah, that's what we called clam shovels before the tubes came along. Anyway, mine has finally rusted through so I am in the market for a long handled, long blade clam shovel. Will be passing thru Aberdeen and Hoquiam so anywhere in that area or Westport would work for me.

Suggestions?

Pretty sure BiMart has the long handled ones. 4 blocks from my house. Not sure if they are long or short bladed.

I also know, I think, know where a brand new stainless steel, long handled, Clam gun is located and for sale.

That is why I try to always call my Clam tubes tubes. I always thought that our old shovels were always Clam guns. I also have several old Tru Temper Clam guns out in the shop.

Some of us old guys never change.

Jack's country store in ocean park has them. But that is a bit out of your way...

Is a 27' handle long enough? smile

Thanks Piper. The 9" blade 41" handle would be just the ticket, but it is a looong ways out of my way.

Ya know now that you mention it the 11' would be best. Probably better get two as the tubes are almost usurping the good ole clam gun.

Die hards...

Even Mrs fp is one of them die hards who cling to the shovel.

As a recent convert to the fp-tube (because of occupational reasons), the biggest bonus is how much cleaner and drier I am at the end of the day.

40+ years with the shovel, but no turnin' back now.

I will use the shovel as long as I am able. It allows me to dig in the surf which adds an element of hunting to the entire thing, plus it's much less work to get a clam out. And if you don't want to get wet when you go clamdigging yer missing a big piece of the adventure. Nothing like having a clam neck in your fingertips as a big wave is coming. I LOVE it!

Its really pretty simple. I have used tubes and clam guns. I get a LOT more joy from the gun, and the gun hurts my back less.

F.P._ please feel free to PM me location of the stainless one you know about.
