I'm trying to find the best way to cure some primo herring I jigged yesterday!

I THOUGHT I'd seen some
info about using bluing to toughen them and to retain their color on this board, but I can't seem to find out where!

Anyone have a favorite way to cure them so they won't turn to mush if frozen? I'd really rather not have to freeze them, and as I remember, the bit on the bluing makes 'em last for a couple weeks in the frig!

try a can or 2 of condensed milk [sweetened],some kosher salt, and some herring oil..

The only thing that I have ever used is rock salt. Put one package or about 8-10 fresh herring in a small plastic container. Put some water in about 1/2 full just enough to cover bait. Then I poor rock salt into the container. Stir every 1/2 hr. This should take about 1hr to cure once in the rock salt.
