i fished there 3 weeks ago and came up with 2 sockeyes, we used bait divers with sand shrimp. We were after springers and steelhead, but these 2 just came up and nibble and finally took the hook. They bite alot like springers, just have to wait till they take it then set the hook.
Might be a bit of a test for a 12 year old to have that much patiences.

cluster eggs will work also. Try drifting them under a float or drift fishing them. The float is easier for beginners, do it just like trout fishing with a 5-6 ft leader under bobber. Sharp hooks and wait for the bobber to go under.

I've been catching them daily on divers and
shrimp,From the bank just try shrimp tails
and just enough weight to bump the bottom.
