Well, with the first opener for columbia river sockeye since before I was born. I am wondering about how to catch them. I am envisioning something similar to the Lake Washington rig, but plunked off of a 3 way spreader. And instead of a flasher using a spinner blade or a couple of thin twins about 24" above the hooks.
So now the big question, there are about 3000 sockeye going over bonneville a day now, is that enough to target? What type of water do they use to travel in on the big river? I was hoping someone that fishes the Fraser in BC would know, I think the Columbia would fish similar to the Fraser. And last but not least, does anyone else have any rigs that they use for big river sockeye? I know about lining, but don't want to do that, esp since it's illegal here.
Thanks,
Ryan

Sweet. I noticed as of today there are about 5 times as many Sockeye as there were all last year. Not to shabby. I used to do well with spoons and small bright flies. A good place to look for them is near the mouth of cooler streams entering the pools. Good luck. Keep us posted

My Canadian clients who fish for Sockeye in the Frasier tell me that they use green wool (yarn) underneath a dink float. Canadians use wool (yarn) under a float for most anything that swims a river.
