Was in the Safeway near Forest Park in Everett yesterday, needed to use the bathroom, finished my business washed up and then noticed a strange box on the wall. It was a container for used syringes. Asked an employee about it and was told there had been to many syringes left laying around, the real kicker was that the box of used syringes is ripped off the wall on a regular basis. WTF

I used to work at a grocery store deli as a dish washer, first real job, the bathroom in the super store regularly had drug users in it and they regularly got busted after they passed out in there. I couldn't believe it at the time or how often it happened but I was young and naieve than. It's no wonder so many businesses don't offer a bathroom to the public.

I'm surprised you've never seen a disposal box before. I think these have traditionally been for diabetics but there I'm sure drug users throw their stuff in there too.

We put sharps containers on all of our construction sites. It can be a major problem in some areas, We do a fair amount of work in some of the tougher neighborhoods in SF. We clear the pedestrian walkways each morning and have documented training programs for all those who handle the used syringes. I had one particular jobsite in the tenderloin district, a dealer worked the sidewalk directly across the street. The majority of the junkies, looked just like you and me, suits and ties or clean looking middle class individuals. Times really have changed.

There is nothing tender about the tenderloin district.
