A friend and I are going to have Saturday free to do a little Steelheading in his drift boat, and we would like information on both rivers to make a decision on the best place to go. I have never drifted the Cowlitz so I would like info on take outs below Blue Creek. Also, if we decide on the Cowlitz how long of a drift is it from Blue Creek to I-5? We know the Nooch well to drift, but we were wondering how the fishing is. Any information would be appreciated, thanks.

boat launches are every 6 miles on the colitz. most of the fish are being caught on the east side of blue creek or in the fast water next to the clay bank. i just anchor as close to the bank as i can and fish the seems. as far as the boat launch massey bar is the next one passed blue creek and it is the first left passed schoolhouse road.go bown the dirt road after you run out of pavment. good luck i got one last sunday down their.

If you anchor close to the clay bank, wear a hardhat. That thing has been coming down for years. A lot of folks will drift down to anderson bar (right below and across from blue creek) and fish from the bank there. Below that I like to free drift and if I really eat my wheaties pull plugs a bit. For a little peace and quiet the upper part of the river, from barrier dam to blue creek launch, isn't bad.
PS There is a raffle going on for a 20' wooldridge from barrier dam campground benefiting friends of the cowlitz. 2$ A ticket with the drawing 4 sept. Need not be present to win.
Good Luck
FG

It all boils down to this - I'm right, everyone else is wrong, and anyone who disputes this is clearly a dumbfuck.

b-bouncer,

I've heard it's been spotty for the most part. Fishing picks up after shots of rain (which isn't in the forecast), then tapers off. They're still there, of course but getting them to bite gets more difficult.
Good luck, if you don't mind, drop me an email and let me know how you guys did. Thanks.....
