Is a 6-24x50 too much scope for wet side Blacktail? It would be a good all around scope, but I'm worried that's a bit too much inside 100.

FYI - Cabela's has Vortex 6-24X50's Vipers on sale for $389 (normally $589). Get em' while they're hot!

If it's not too much scope, I'm going shopping immediately....

I like a 2 or 4 power on the lower end if you are going to be in a brushy area.

Thanks Larry - I've decided to not pull the trigger. It would make a great long range scope but FOV at 6x is pretty small in the brush.

Way too much scope for this side.

I usually use open sights for deer but a simple LP VX2 3-9 would suit you fine for deer here. I've shot 3 deer over 150 yards, 20 between 7yds-100. If you were hunting Eastern WA, the Vortex would be a good scope.

I have a Vortex Viper PST EBR-1 MRAD 6-24x50. Great scope, very clear, excellent warranty. Shoots well out to 600 and beyond. Tried using the rifle it sits on one day for early season bear, way too much scope for yardages under 50 yards. Not bad for a clear-cut rifle, but I would pack a second rifle for the timber and brush if I were you.

Thanks everyone. I ended up getting a great deal from Cabela's on a 3x9-40 Nikon Buck Master BDC (supported with their "Spot On" ballistic calc).
On sale for $99 down from $230. Not high end glass by any means, but this will be on a working gun for wet side blacktails and bear, so its hard to justify Vortex or LP's glass cost for shots inside 100.

Looking at Tally mounts now...

Good choice. Get it sighted in, and practice with that BDC. It can be a handy tool once the yardages start to stretch out there.

Take it back before you mount it. The new buck masters are not the same scope as the old BM. Read reviews from 2015 only. lots of feature and quality differences. Makes sense with the strong dollar that they would go cheaper. Assuming you are fairly new to this based on questions. I approach it this way ,why take a $400+ gun and put $100 glass on it? The gun will only shoot as good as the glass right?. You would be better off going to eBay and buying a 1980's varix III for that $100. Or an old red field wide field 4x fixed for even less.

I would tend to agree Piper. Blacktail ranges tend to be very short. Mount it. Shoot it.

Turrets make long range shooting much more fun. Our group uses MIL dot scopes so we have a dope sheet attached to our rifles. Laze, check dope, adjust, send it.
