The Iranians didn't start acting like pricks until after we starting toppling their leaders and installing puppets in the interest of their oil.
At some point we should at least try to bury the hatchet.
The Iranians would be hardly a threat to us should we actually need to take military action.
Really, you read that in the weekly reader?
How many puppets did the Americans install? Were the Brittish involved at all in the 40 years prior? How about the clerics ? They opposed the nationalization of the oil companies and supported the Brittish and American plan to coup before they opposed it. Why? Because the shah ended up marginalizing them in favor of a more liberal society. Who do you think pushed the Shah to do that? All the engineers, Drs etc educated in Britain and the U.S. ? The educated class wanted to imitate the west. The shah imposed their will. They would still do it today if the clerics were removed.
John Kerry is the worst negotiator on the face of the earth . His policies and decisions are some of the worst ever concocted. However he got this one right ( my money is that he stole the idea from someone else) The clerics will not capitulate so you are left with starting another war or buying some time to see if a more moderate element can surface. It may very well lead to war down the road who knows. In the meantime I doubt they are suicidal so let's see what happens.
