Congratulations, Jim. I hope your post does as much for deseminating accurate information about fish conservation as folks occasionally tell me mine has. Salmo g., the former Latin name for steelhead, is the handle I began using 4 years ago on a fishing BB where most posters used a handle instead of their real names. I liked Salmo so well I wouldn't dream of posting with my real name.
As for the Cowlitz confusion, I apologise for an unclear post. "What I meant to say was," having read about the upcoming meeting about the Cowlitz licensing on August 3 (which I wasn't able to attend) reminded me of what one of the guys who tracks fish passage data had told me about fish counts at Cowlitz. So I shared that information thinking it would be of interest to you guys on this BB.
I haven't a clue what you mean about posting contradictory information on other bulletin boards. I have posted on VFS, which is mostly about fly fishing. Let's see, I've posted about using fly reels that don't have disc drags (mine don't), I've got a couple Sage rods along with a bunch of cheap gear, I collect some bamboo, appreciate wild fish, but also fish for hatchery fish. I advocate for fish conservation. It seems you're trying to defame me here. In fairness, could you please back up your allegation with at least one example?
And no, I don't influence the policies at NMFS or any other government agency. I'm not even sure that I would wish to. Well, maybe sometimes I would.
If you believe that what I post on this BB is inappropriate, ask Bob to ban me. I don't claim to be an authority. I share facts and opinions (usually labled as such) that may be of interest to readers here. If you don't care for what I write, don't read it. This is cyber-space. I'm nothing more than electrons on your computer screen. The quality of any information here is its inherent content. Nothing more, nothing less.
Adios,
Salmo g.

Coho, I appreciate your anonymous sharing of whatever info you might know about the unfair allocation complexities. However, if the NMFS is a puppet of unethical and likely illegal actions by "public servants" in Wash. D.C., that still does not exonerate them from their public funded responsibilty to specifically answer questions possed by members of public forums and media as to what is really going on and WHY! And ultimately, under the Freedom of Public Information Act, reveal who in elected office is going outside of Treaty interpretations by Judges Belloni and Boldt, who many feel was unfairly biased toward a minority to begin with, to even further favor the Treaty tribes over the public majority in terms of fish allocation, for which we paid! How poorly is the NMFS managed to help create a public snaffu by trying to dodge this matter? Are they under an illegal and unethical gag order from elected officials that don't want to lose votes in the next elections or what? If not, it certainly behooves them to come forward with a thorough explaination of this situation soon, including which officials in Wash. D.C. are dictating what's happening and WHY! They will be revealed one way or another, even if it has to be in court procedings by the states. Are Indian gambling profits now helping to elect "public servants" to high places in office? - RT - BTW, please pardon me for refering to "campaign contribution constiuent servants" as "public servants"; but I think you knew what I meant. Sorry to have gone through and edited some of these posts, but after thinking this through, I have to admit that I believe that Jim was out of line. If Salmo g wishes to post his personal info here, he would. He doesn't, so I won't let others.

It all boils down to this - I'm right, everyone else is wrong, and anyone who disputes this is clearly a dumbfuck.

Bob,
I think you have taken the correct position on this one. If personal info is to be traded via the internet, it should be done via email. And to claim that ANYONE who wishes to remain somewhat anonymous has less validity in their posts is bogus. I use my first name and last initial to post because, frankly, I was having a hard time finding a clever "handle". But you'll NEVER catch me posting my name, address, and phone number because my kids and wife share the same home I live in and I WON'T expose them to somebody who may disagree with my views, and then decide to take their dislike of ME to a new level. That's what email is for. I believe Salmo g has done much for this BB, and if you don't like his so-called anonymity, then take it up with him via email.

Though I find myself disagreeing with Salmo more often then not on opinions, he should be able to stay anonymous. On any board you will have people who try to woo you to their way of thinkin as you can anywhere in life, it can be very subtle. It is probably best to think any poster has their own agenda, seems too bad that some people would be unable to see this and you get some guy talkin technically, slippin in his opinions...can be hard to decifer.
