My stepfather was the Dean of Vocational Training at the UCC for several years. He set up the welding shop that's next door to where the shooting took place. He's since moved onto another job down in Cali, but he's still friends with many on campus. As you can imagine, a good part of the day was spent on the phone. Everyone he knows down there is safe tonight.
We don't have a gun problem in this country. We have a mental health and media problem. Guns are a symptom, not the disease.
I shot several weapons today....because I can. I will continue to do so as I see fit.

Obama should express concern for the people affected by this heinous act. It was a horrible act that was perpetrated by a person who was obviously either evil or mentally unbalanced. However I do have a problem with him thinking that the only way to control either the mentally imbalanced or evil is to pass more firearm regulations especially if you consider that he did not yet have the facts of the case with which to draw any meaningful conclusions.
He seems to often talk before he has the facts, and he often appears the fool for doing so, and when he has facts he only speaks when they fit his agenda, and that is why I think that he should just STFU. And if you can't understand that you might want to come up with a new name to call yourself. I can think of one, in fact you used it in the post that I am responding to. Are you referring to Toff or obammy?

What crawled up your ass, RvW?
All I did was point out the obvious...which, of course, is exactly as it is playing out.
The anti-gun crowd thinks banning guns will help.
The gun nuts think if we all had more guns that would help.
There will be no middle ground, and nothing will happen.
If that's polticizing to you, then you are as fuckin stupid as Sol Dunce.
There's your "congrats", asswipe.
Fish on...

So the anti gun anti second amendment group is a crowd, and the pro gun pro second amendment group are nuts?

Not including the Sandy Hook shooter who was obviously mentally disabled the rest of these shooters seem to have a common profile.
1) They had never been laid before. 2) They had very few or no friends on their Facebook page. 3) They blamed society as a whole and especially their peers for the above two realities.
So I propose adding a few questions to the current gun purchase questionnaire.
1) Have you been laid in the past year? 2) Do you have a Facebook account? 2.1) If answered yes to 2 do you have more than 20 friends.
Answer no to any of these questions then you cannot legally purchase a firearm.
Basically these shooters are pissed that they are losers. As always they should take Dan's advise and set themselves on fire and leave the rest of us alone!
And until they all take Dan's advise these shootings are just a cost of a free people in the USA.

Well I am pro gun rights so according to you I must be nuts. Bring something to the table other than your underdeveloped but clearly over self-appreciated wit. Coming from you that statement is rich indeed.

We don't have a gun problem in this country. We have a mental health and media problem. Guns are a symptom, not the disease.
I believe that Nick's comment (above) is a very simplified, but accurate statement. Other than some idiot wanting to emulate their favorite video game hero, it's not an issue of the weapon used. Unlike when I was growing up, young people today have a huge amount of free time. They don't socialize in person anymore, instead they sit in their rooms playing video games and texting, or their surfing the web reading all manner of insane propaganda from every psycho, extremist group in the world. It's their own little private world, and while they may seem "normal" to society, inside they are carrying around their own version of life and what they perceive as injustices against them. No, of course this isn't every kid, but there are still those young people, whose parents are otherwise occupied with their own lives, who fall into this category. They consume this drivel to the point where they feel "empowered" to make some kind of statement...the violence and death soon follows. Gun, knife, bomb, drive a car through a crowd...whatever. They've done it a million times in video games, so it's not a real stretch for them to try and act it out as part of their "statement". Honestly, I don't believe society can solve this issue. If humanity rid itself of the Internet and cellular communication, I believe that would make a huge change.....but then, nobody wants that, so that just ain't gonna happen. My generation has done their bit for "king and country", and we all hoped to leave a better world for our kids. I'm afraid we didn't do a very good job..but damn, we sure tried. Got 9 grandkids under age 12, and worry about what kind of world they will be growing up in.

to me what most of these shooters are looking for is 30 seconds of fame. maybe if the news people would stop all the news about them it might stop some of them.

I like Nick's comments. However, I have a more direct approach...I think if you post pictures of yourself on any social media venue holding a gun and talking about religion, politics or your ex, you should get a visit from FBI, Homeland Security, and local police. The questioning should start with a grip on your throat as you're held off the ground against the wall. Perhaps the questions should go as follows...."you're scaring people, we don't like that. We are now going to track everything you do. When you take a [Bleeeeep!], we'll know. You can't buy guns and we're taking the ones you have now. You want crazy, you just got it. STFU and any further comments that are deemed threatening and you'll be put in a nuthouse."

But I don't know how to implement such a policy considering freedom of the press and a media whose main goal is ratings via being first to report something.
Last month 362 people in Chicago were shot and 59 of them died. The media didn't say boo and it didn't slow anything down. The total this year is 1976 shot and 349 killed. Crickets. Gang warfare in Chicago has sh!t to do with a mass-homicide at a community college in Oregon. But you already knew that.

If you phonetically pronounce "Jesus" backwards it sounds like "sausage".

I wish I had something substantial to add but I will say this, I work with an open carry guy, he was wearing his gun at work, totally unnecessarily, and made folks a little nervous so now he carries it in a little bag everywhere on his shoulder. He has now been galvanized by him being asked to not open carry and daily goes on bitch tirades about how he has his rights. It is clear that a lot of his identity, to him, is wrapped up in his gun. It takes up a lot of his mental energy and he dwells on it a lot and feels embarrassed and hurt that people don't like his gun. He of course says the gun is there to defend himself which makes sense hypothetically.
So my question is, who has the mental health issue here? The people who are nervous about a gun at work or the guy who is so paranoid he needs to take everywhere and can't feel like himself without his gun and has it in a little man purse?
I'm not talking rights, I'm asking who is cuckoo? I personally feel like this guy has an overactive imagination, lacks statistical comprehension, and is paranoid.
Also, I was not one of the people who asked him not to carry, I don't really care because the guy is a solid reliable employee.
