My husband and I have a Merc Force 125 that has alluded mechanics. We use it to troll (with a bucket in tow). After several hours, the warn horn goes off indicating overheating. So far, we have flushed the ports, replaced the water pump and impellor (twice) and removed the thermostat. Now once again, during the peak salmon fishing season - it is back in the shop. Has anyone ever experienced this and what was the verdict?

The only thing that I am sure of about Force motors is to sell em' and buy a real motor. I know to many people that have had to many problems with em'. If it doesen't say Evinrude or Johnson on the side it won't be on my boat. For as much as you have spent on the fixes to the main motor you might seriously consider picking up a used trolling motor instead. For $300 - $500 it might be worth it, ya might save that just in gas consumption over the course of a few years!!!
Good luck with the fix and tight lines, Jeff

I,ve seen many, many Forces sitting at the dock broke down! If you can, get rid of it. Alot of mechanics wont even touch em.
In my opinion if you have a Force you should have a quality (non-Force) backup motor.

May the Force not be with you!

A good friend of mine had one nothing but trouble. had it in the shop more than the water. thank god for the kicker or we would not have gotten home many times. The motor cover makes a good flower box now.
