I am a retired and disabled (heart condition) Steelhead fisherman. I recently relocated to the Salem area and have been unable to locate any decent bank fishing areas. I can not operate a drift boat.
Any suggestions on local bank fishing? Any suggestions on bank fishing anywhere ( I can easily drive to location, even as far as Seattle).
I am looking forward to winter 2000/2001 and summer 2001 fishing season and would like any input I can get vis-a-vis productive and accessible bank fishing locations.

HCOhen, I do not know the river well, but you may want to check around the Santiam Rivers just south of Salem. The Siletz also has some decent bank fishing, I wish I could tell you more info on where on these two rivers, but I have only fished both from a drift boat. Just find a local bait shop or tackle shop and ask them, I am sure they would be more than glad to give you some good advice, and probably even directions to locations with good access. I hope this helps and good luck to you.

For Oregon streams, there is an equivalent to Bobs Bulletin Board at www.ifish.net

Its moderated by 'Reel Truth', who is also a frequent contributor to this board. Post your message there and I bet you get some good responses from your area.

If you are disabled, you might want to give the disabled ramp at the N Fork Nehalem a look. The ramp is 5 feet from the hatchery intake and can offer incredible coho and steelhead angling.

HCohen, try the Wind next spring. Late in the season fish the upper river just below the deadline - totally easy access right off the road. The forecasted record run of springers will be stacked up. Warning: this is combat fishing. Also, don't go if you feel flossing 'em is unethical.

Bruddah Ram, howzit?

Peace Out...
