Romar's freshman lead the country in scoring, with his lone Senior, Andrews leading in league scoring. Don't know how many of you have been following, but the games as of late have been phenomenal to watch with the exception of the AZ game. Don't know how far this team will go this year but they are playing good basketball and the future looks bright at Hec Ed... Big game against Colorado tonight

Coogs are sitting safe and sound in the basement..... grin

I've been paying really close attention but haven't been able to see a whole game. So I cleared my schedule for the game against AZ. LOL bad choice.

Really good looking squad though, going to be a fun year.

Still the best ticket in town. Only getting about 5k a night so plenty of seats for the walk up crowd. I get to most games, but not tonight, with half being season tickets and the others I just buy them at the door. They're easy to get to and from and only last a couple of hours.

I always laugh at those who say Romar can't coach up his talent. Well I guess those folks never watched Andrews as a freshmen or as a senior.

After getting whooped by the Dawgs Kent (the WSU coach for our coug fans) was asked about the crowd. "They were great tonight. The problem is that teams like Gonzaga and the Huskies come here and are used to playing in front of great crowds while this team is not."

The Huskies athleticism will keep them in most games but as Stam noted quality bigs and foul trouble will ultimately be their undoing.

In the meantime they sure are fun to watch!

I can't wait till Sunday. You can find me in the nosebleeds. Yay!

Foul trouble has been a major issue. Compounding that is our rotation is pretty thin(7man). The blowout game against AZ, we actually had the lead before half, and only trailed by a few going into the second half...so, one really bad half is the worst of our conference play so far.

As young and athletic as this team is, if we can stay out of foul trouble and keep the game manageable(within 10pts, with 5-7min left in game), then crank up the tempo to close out the game might be a good strategy...worked against SC, WSU, UCLA

Both... Being close at the end of first half in AZ, on the road, in that environment would be considered a win. Not having opportunity at end of second half to win, would be considered a lose grin

Their lone senior twisted his ankle and the rest of the team promptly lost their minds.

The game in Hec Ed will be much more competitive.

BTW-How in the hell does Andrew Andrews not make the Wooden award watch list??? He's the frontrunner to be Pac-10 player of the year yet he's gotten absolutely no national attention.

Oh yea. He didn't make the preseason Bristol memo. My bad!

His only real competition for player of the year is Gary Payton Jr. That kid is like in the top three in every category. I'm looking forward to seeing him in Hec Ed. I wonder if his gums are continually flapping like the old man's.

Big game tonight, before heading on the road to UCLA and SC. A win tonight and a split against the southern California teams would be great, imho....

Another down to the wire contest. That was a game they had to win. Andrews was off, but Murray picked up slack. If we can stay out of freakin foul trouble, AZ will be in trouble.

I can't recall him taking a jumper.

They also really send the D league announcing crews to those late games.

How long did it take St John of Westwood to win his first NCAA while at UCLA. A decade or so? And most of the other long-time winning coaches like Dean Smith, Iba, and others. Building a program takes not only the right person but time.

Both....

Dawgs at home vs The Cardinal tonight. The last 4 games were tough losses and hurts their chances for playing into March. I'm going to resurrect my inner Slo Duc and say we win big tonight.

I hope Murray comes back next year. He has a great handle and is incredibly explosive driving the lane. At least one more year of getting in weight room and cleaning up defensive mistakes along with foul shooting would help his stock.

If you add up all the stupid ass freshman mistakes in the last four games, cut them in half next year and we win at least three of the four.

Wow. What a kick in the nuts that was. When we took a lead with 5 min left, we started playing not to lose and slowed the pace to a crawl and basically went into a one dimensional coma, on offense.

Hopefully the Coogs softened up Oregon enough for us to pull out a miracle rolleyes

We need a low post presence. Eventually teams will take away your perimeter game or your shooting goes cold. We need to score more in the paint. Andrews and Murray are the only two guys driving and scoring/getting fouled, everyone else is a spectator at times.

Beat the Coogs, then call it a season....f' the tourney rofl

A 1-17 conference record entitles the Coogs to a well earned participation trophy, and ice cream cones for all. Some teams go to Disneyland; this team goes to Dairy Queen.

Shout out to the Husky women for their win over ranked Stanford last night. Huskies had a double digit lead at the half. That lead was cut to two points with a couple minutes to go. Huskies held on to take the game 73-65. Husky guard Kelsey Plum became the all-time leading scorer for Washington women during the game. Four Washington starters played the entire game; their center rode the bench for four minutes due to foul trouble. The number one seed, Oregon State, is up next for Washington. At least the Husky subs are well rested.

The Dawgs were picked to finish with the Coogs at the bottom of the Pac. We got off to a fast start and now our youth is showing = inconsistencies. Big games and big situations you need leadership and experience. Andrews is it... Two of our freshman have only been playing ball for 4-5yrs. Next year we will win the league and be playing in the sweet 16.
03' - 11' the Dawgs had either won league/tourney, and the ncaa in 7 of 9 seasons. I believe this team is set to make a good run......soon

I think the Huskies will need to find another big man to be a national contender. A big man like Welp, McCulloch, or Schrempf to mess up the middle of the floor. It's been awhile since they've had a good one.

Hence my frustration with Romar. Has the #6 recuited team in the country and we risk missing a tourney bid. So many tight games lost at last minute because it was obvious the players had no plan. That falls on the coaching staff.

The other coach who has done well is Larry Krystkowiak on Utah. A bit over amped once in a while but his players know exactly what the goal is.

5 games today to wrap up the season and then Wednesday they put it on the table in Vegas

Utah has three seniors and two juniors backing up Poeltl. Once the game film got out Andrews getting to the line late to win games turned to whatever it takes to make sure Andrews doesn't win the game and put the ball in the freshmen hands. Which has not worked out terribly well since both Murrey and Chris are somewhat one dimensional at this time.

I'm glad your not the AD. You'd have fired Krystkowiak a year ago smile. And remember the Dawgs were picked 11th in the preseason so I have a very hard time calling this a bad year for Romar! In fact after watching this team in the pre season going one on five all game long I'd say they are much better now than they were early in the season. But it does suck when that doesn't transpire in wins, especially in close games. Still one of the funnest and hardest working teams I've ever watched. I love their never quite attitude.

They've got a 6-10 275# stud from New Zealand red shirting this year. He didn't get cleared until Jan hence the red shirt. His name is Sam Timmons and he reminds me a little of Brockmen in that he doesn't dribble and head fake and all that other garbage inside. Just catch, turn and layup. He's going to be very good. Add the top 10 kid from Virginia and the Dawgs will be adding even more talent next year. Throw in the fact that local High School talent is coming off a decade of crappy talent and I feel real good about the future Husky basketball.

Forgot about Brockman. He was a workhorse. Gonna be interesting to watch this team develop over the next couple of years.

Brockman was kind of like Lonnie Shelton. I think every team needs an enforcer.

I do have found memories of Maurice Lucas, the quintessential "Enforcer" and admittedly (by Dr. Jack) hired for that role.

The game is changing, though.
If the opponent can bury you in points (ala GSW), an enforcer doesn't matter.

Lucas would put you on your ass if you came down the lane. Remember Fortson when he played with the Sonics? He would use his 5 fouls in 10 min or less. A bunch of sissies play in the NBA now.

I remember in 77 during the championship game with the 76ers, Darrel Dawkins was ready to put the hurt on Bobby Gross, when out of nowhere a fist comes up to the back of Dawkins head and he went down like a bag of dirt.

It was between John Brisker and Ricky sobers, brisker was getting the best of him and knocked him to the floor, brisker then starts kicking him in the head a dozen times or more until Bill Russell (the sonics coach) broke it up and carried both players by their shorts, one in each hand and carried them both to the sidelines...I kid you not. I wish more fights broke out more often like the good old days. The NBA players now days are pussies.

On a side note, John Brisker went to Ghana to never be found again. Most suspect foul play.

For those of you who like your women Husky...

they play number 3 seed Kentucky at 4:00 pm today. The Huskies moved into the Sweet 16 after laying a loss on number 2 seed Maryland on Monday. Tonight's game is in Lexington and will be televised by ESPN2.

Hope they can bounce back better than they did following their emotional win over Stanford in the Pac-12 tournament. Husky guard, Kelsey Plum, is the nation's fourth leading scorer and a lot of fun to watch.

Go Dawgs!

Hey Sol Duc, I've been in agreement with many of your posts, but you might want to revisit your comment about women's basketball. I'm currently a head coach of a very good girls HS team and their effort, talent and heart is off the charts. UW women's team just knocked off two top seeded teams and now are heading to the Elite 8.
I've coached both boys and girls basketball for 20 years, while different, it's still basketball and girls basketball at all levels is making huge strides in the wow factor...give it a chance.

Being an old bloke, the girls/women play the game I was coached. Pass, move the ball, play defense, don't showboat. Boy's/men's hoops shows little of this, to me.

Should note, too, that during the Women's World Cup in soccer one of the women was asked why the women didn't dive and flop like the men. She wondered if they were tougher.

Snake, good job on Coaching! I've played organized BB from 4th grade up to 12th...lived and breathed it. If I'm going to pay to watch someone play a sport at a certain level I can, I have no interest. I want to see above the rim crazy chit that only a few Humans in this world can do. I have no problem with parents going to watch their Kids play though. Keep up the good Coaching.
