Internet of Things: This will make every other revolution look like peanuts...trillions and trillions at stake. Interesting read.
The "Internet of Things" connects devices and vehicles using electronic sensors and the Internet. The Internet of Things (IoT) is the network of physical objects—devices, vehicles, buildings and other items embedded with electronics, software, sensors, and network connectivity—that enables these objects to collect and exchange data.[1] The Internet of Things allows objects to be sensed and controlled remotely across existing network infrastructure,[2] creating opportunities for more direct integration of the physical world into computer-based systems, and resulting in improved efficiency, accuracy and economic benefit;[3][4][5][6][7][8] when IoT is augmented with sensors and actuators, the technology becomes an instance of the more general class of cyber-physical systems, which also encompasses technologies such as smart grids, smart homes, intelligent transportation and smart cities. Each thing is uniquely identifiable through its embedded computing system but is able to interoperate within the existing Internet infrastructure. Experts estimate that the IoT will consist of almost 50 billion objects by 2020.[9]
British entrepreneur Kevin Ashton first coined the term in 1999 while working at Auto-ID Labs (originally called Auto-ID centers, referring to a global network of objects connected to radio-frequency identification, or RFID).[10] Typically, IoT is expected to offer advanced connectivity of devices, systems, and services that goes beyond machine-to-machine (M2M) communications and covers a variety of protocols, domains, and applications.[11] The interconnection of these embedded devices (including smart objects), is expected to usher in automation in nearly all fields, while also enabling advanced applications like a Smart Grid,[12] and expanding to the areas such as smart cities.[13][14]
"Things," in the IoT sense, can refer to a wide variety of devices such as heart monitoring implants, biochip transponders on farm animals, electric clams in coastal waters,[15] automobiles with built-in sensors, DNA analysis devices for environmental/food/pathogen monitoring[16] or field operation devices that assist firefighters in search and rescue operations.[17] Legal scholars suggest to look at "Things" as an "inextricable mixture of hardware, software, data and service".[18] These devices collect useful data with the help of various existing technologies and then autonomously flow the data between other devices.[19][20] Current market examples include smart thermostat systems and washer/dryers that use Wi-Fi for remote monitoring.
As well as the expansion of Internet-connected automation into a plethora of new application areas, IoT is also expected to generate large amounts of data from diverse locations, with the consequent necessity for quick aggregation of the data, and an increase in the need to index, store, and process such data more effectively. IoT is one of the platforms of today's Smart City, and Smart Energy Management Systems.

Another article Kiplinger. The Internet of Things The Internet of Things image: http://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/icon1.png is a concept so enormous it’s hard to wrap your brain around. Think of the IoT image: http://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/icon1.png as nothing less than the dawn of inanimate consciousness, says Stifel, Nicolaus, an investment firm. Embedded sensors, processors and communication technology are in effect waking machines from a catatonic state, extracting intelligence from the physical world that we can then use to make people healthier, cars safer, homes cozier and cheaper to maintain, factories and farms more efficient, and cities more livable and environmentally friendly. Applications for the IoT are practically infinite. Nearly 5 billion connected things will be in use in 2015, according to Gartner Inc., a technology research firm. By 2020, the number of “things” will grow to 26 billion, encompassing everything from smart watches, smart cars and smart home appliances to networked factory machines and citywide energy grids. That will amount to some $1.9 trillion in revenues generated or savings realized. The structural change resulting from the IoT will be akin to the industrial revolution, says Goldman Sachs. Trump has now been mentioned. Is The Donald a Borg control by the Things in the Internet (TITI)?

I forget the name of the law but it basically states computing power doubles every 16 months while the price drops in half. Since this has held true since the '60's you can run the math and determine what month Silicon Valley goes out of business. At that time a processor chip will be worth less than a sheet of paper. And when that happens everything will be embedded with a computer chip. Wether we like it or not. So if computer technology is to have any future it will be in connecting a bunch of worthless chips to the cloud hoping it's so cheap we all will buy or use that connectivity.
Michio Kaku has an excellent book titled " Physics of the Future" so if like me, you don't really have a life, and find this [Bleeeeep!] interesting, it is an excellent read.

We have just touched the tip of the ice burg. Not far out our clothes will have chips in them to change back and forth due to weather changes. Twenty years from now will be so much different in so many ways it's scary. I predict that large lithium ion batteries will heat our homes and run all appliances. Tesla has already built a battery pack to run an average home, and it's not very big either. Sky is the limit.
There will be so many investment opportunity's if you can get in early that will make people very wealthy. The long term outlook looks very good. Just hope the Planet and People are still here.

I love listening to him speak. He breaks it down to layman terms so you can sort of understand what he is talking about. I need to order that book.

YouTube it. I haven't listen to them but he's given several talks on the book.
