I have a 16GB sd card and when I turn my camera on it says I need to format the card, when I put in the computer I also get the same message. There is a few hundred photos on this card I would like to recover. If I can just get the JPG file and the video files I would be happy. There is also a lot of RAW files but don't really need those so much. Looking for recovery software that works, free is good. Anyone have a program to recommend. Thanks for your help

There are several free options online for this. Not sure which is best or if they even work. Good luck

Lexar makes a recovery program called Rescue3 which I have tested and it does work. It costs around $30. Until you can use a recovery program on your card, do NOT use it, but buy a second card and use it (after you format it) until you can recover the images on your old card

TestDisk + Photorec from (http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk)
is a good quality long established free software.. Also do all of this from a PC with a cardreader, if that isnt already obvious.

I've never had an SD card fail and I've had mixed results with free data recovery software on the 'puter.
This alone qualifies me as an EXPERT in data recovery.
There is however, one GRAND POOBAH of data recovery on this board by the name of Evo.
You may want to consult with him first.

This guy from the Interwebz has put together a tutorial using
free software from Recovering-Deleted-Files.net

Looks easy enough and the price is right....
