While I was out tromping around early this week on streams that can only be called "too low" the Clallam County Board of Commissioners had there regular meeting and at that meeting they approved the draft letter to Senator Slade Gorton R. Bellevue.
To all who wrote the commissoners urging them to send the letter I say "Thank you"!
Now would be an appropriate time to send a letter to Senator Gorton urging him to follow the advice of the Local governing body and modify his position on the removal schedule to embrace the simultaneous removal of both Elwha and Glines Canyon dams.
I especialy urge the staunch Republican supporters who beleive in the project to make him aware of there views in ths regard. It is after all an electin year and I fail to see how altering his position on this issue could do anything but help him win reelection.
Remember the removal of both dams at the same time results in a projected saving of $26.2 million and will result in moving recovery ahead 12 years.
Once again thank you for your continued support on this worthwhile cause.

When would be the earliest that the dams would come down if Gordon gave the ok today?

Native, Thanks for keeping us posted on this letter to Slade. I've been on vacation Aug. and Sept. but I did get an e-mail off to the Commissioners when I was home for a while in Aug. The Elwha dams are a pet peeve of mine. The potential of the Elwha to be a salmon and steelhead producer is awesome. Do you know of any groups that are working specificly on Elwha restoration?
