what do those of you who read marty`s link on his website steelheader.net think about Will Stelle giving up his seat on the marine fisheries board. Makes me wonder if it just got a little to hot for him.
I guess it`s true what they say, when the going gets tough, some just go.*L*

I didn't read Marty's link, but I saw in the local paper that Stelle is leaving NMFS. Hot seat or not, I think that the reason he's leaving is because there is an election less than two months away. I believe his job at NMFS is a political appointment, not regular gov't. service. With a new Prez in January, there will be lots of new directors at federal agencies.

He has an impossible job. The environmentalists hate him for not doing enough to protect salmon, and business and industry hate him for coming down too hard on their self interests in destroying salmon habitat. That's a difficult needle to thread, at best.

Ditto Salmon g. That position has to be one of the most difficult in the entire Federal system. Nobody deserves the crap that he had to put up with. I'm surprised he lasted as long as he did. I didn't always agree with the decisions he made but at least he tried to do what is best for the resources given the political constraints he was under. I wish him the best of luck. And best of luck to whomever succeeds him.
