I am a rookie to this BB...and an Oregon boy, too. I ghotta tell ya, this is the angriest bunch of high tech anglers I have ever sat in with. I know there are all kinds of political problems in the fishin' arena. But, my gosh... You hate the indians, your governor, politicians, people who stand shoulder to shoulder and fish like you, jetboaters, bait fisherman, snaggers, long liners, short leaders, fishing regulations, dams, litter, anyone that doesn't buy a ThorBuilt(must be financing the web site, no one's ever heard of 'em)...you've even started a banana boycott...poor lil yellow buggers. RELAX... fishing is therapy... a way of life...walk away when it irritates you. I probably even agree with you on most of these gripes. Its just that we sour the sport when our focus is the grippin'not the enjoyment.
Give a good report. Share a trip, funny anecdote, lie about a big fish, think about how good hot coffee tastes when you get up way too early and you sit on a wet boat seat covered with dew. Take a paxil and come south of the Columbia. Good Luck

I'll be down south of the Columbia real soon when the rain hits. Nice to get away from the crowds and all that other stuff you've been reading about on this board. Got a nice buck steelie during the freshet Labor Day weekend. I'll pass on the paxil. I've seen it screw people up.

Amen, Hogtide!
On the other hand the fishin in this state has detoriated so much that we sportsfishers need to unite to turn things around.
Maybe a seperate BB/forum for gripes and/or political activism?
Roger

A friend wants me to go with him to the Carbon this weekend. What's Paxil and what are the side effects? Never mind, where do I get it?

Welcome Hogtide, the problem here is that people like to vent and express their opinions be it positive or negative. We sportsman here in Washington have problems that you Duck fans down south don't have to deal with i.e. Native American nets for 1 and a state government that has it's head in a unique position...up their *ss...they don't care about us ,we pay for state hatchery system thats needs a lot of improvment,we don't get much bang for our buck??? So as the saying goes...until you walk a mile in my shoes we've earned the right to *****..sometimes it does go a little far. I guess I'm done *****en now..just my .02 ------------------ Row Quietly and fish a Cataraft }<<(('>----<'))>>{ Release all Wild Fish

Indeed. Well said. I also am a rookie to this BB. Just found it yesterday in anticipation of a trip to the Kalama this weekend. I have a buddy that works for one of the Indian reservations and have heard many of the gripes. We are fairly dedicated fly fishermen and fish for trout in Colorado and the surounding states. I have developed a the urge to chase the Steelhead and Salmon when I can get away to visit him. I have fished up out of Forks...tough without a driftboat. We have floated the Calawah...cool float yet skunked even with a guide. Down south, I have spent most of my time on the Kalama and the Satsop. Do you Fly Fish?? I'll have to admit with the handfull of fish that I have under my belt given all the visits, I still feel like there is plenty to learn and that I would enjoy the perspective from someone who is from the surrounding area. Do you have any river or destination advice for a serious fly-fisherman? My interests lie primarily in Silvers and Steelhead. I am familiar with floating yet don't have access to a boat up there. Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a ton in advance.
