Just got back from a week in Kodiak. The fishing sucked. 2 Silvers the entire week. My Uncle came back with no fish. Hit all the rivers and no runs. What is going on up there? Not just us, lot of empty ice chest coming back. We are looking for a new area to fish next year, any sugestions?

I have three words for you: "SITKA" and "Greg Kain".

jduck1, Don't give up on Kodiak so quickly, fishing up there is just like anywhere else, its all about timing, you obviously, were there at a bad time, this time next year, probably be red hot. If you want a hot mid-Sept. silver fishery try southern S.E. Alaska, specifically around Ketchikan and Bell Is. This is a mid Aug. to mid Sept. fishery that usually produces easy limits and nice size fish, 10-14 lbs. common and 15-18pounders not unusual. good luck, hope this helps. One other note, Sitka, mid-Sept. dead sea.

My wife and I fished at Kodiak the 29th and 30th of August. The weather was awful (WINDY) but we still managed 10 silvers each day out in the salt. The were nice sized (11-16lbs), and the ling fishing was great (44-50 lbs) if only the friggin' wind (up to 40 mph) would of stopped blowing. I've had great trips the last 3 years up there. The lings and flatties are always there, but you must try to time the salmon runs (which is the always a gamble) to your fishing times.
