Made a round about drive up to the Quilcene today...more scouting than anything else. Got there about 1 left at 1:30 with two silvers.....gotta cast around the chum....very fun to see all the fish...if you go fish the water that you can't see, across the river...small spoon worked today.

It all boils down to this - I'm right, everyone else is wrong, and anyone who disputes this is clearly a dumbfuck.

buds,

Yeah, there are lots of guys down there most days, but with a little walking you should be able to find a decent hole to fish without company. I was up there a few days ago, and the river has silvers in most holes, so you should be able to get some action away from the crowds and snaggers.

Watch out for the hordes of chums, or you'll find yourself going through the gear at a rapid rate.

Fish on.......

Some of those silvers are large. Nice mature eggs too. Pretty crowded though, especially on the weekend.

Just got back. Not as many silvers as there was earlier in the week. The chums are dying off so those are thinning out also. Still lots of fish by normal standards though. Fish are getting pretty spooky with all the pressure . Still caught 4...kept one nice hen in a couple hours.

Darn Marty...would have been great to meet you. I started at the 101 bridge...shorts and tennis shoes and just started wading. It really wasn't horrible pressure. What did you use Marty? I was using a small hammered brass spoon...it was fun putting the not often used accuracy casting to use...have to be accurate to avoid the chums...

Have fun everyone...I am sure there will be lots of folks there on the weekend...it is a sight to see whether you fish or not....my only question is...where are the bears...I would think some would be around.

Jim
I didn't get there until about 5pm. Tiny jigs of varying dark colors and small homeade copper/black spinners. Had one take me through a brush pile upstream and wrapped my rod tip with the line when it came back down....Yikes got lucky not to break rod #2 in a week on the Quil. Was able to grab the line past the tip before it could go crazy again and break me off. I walked down from the hiway also. Wore hip boots today. Them rocks are slippery in there with out felts. Chums are really starting to stink!!!!! Next couple weeks are vacation for me so I will stop in there a couple more times before some of the other streams open and in between saltwater excursions. Normally wear a tan filson tin lid and vest. I think I will try from the lower end in the morning.

Howdy 8ft.,
The Chum are the threatend/endangered Summer-run Chum. I had never even heard of them until the fed.s had to take action to hopefully rescue the run.

Trivia Q. Which two species of Salmon are considered the most evolutionary advanced?

A.Because they spawn lower in the river and their young exit freshwater after hatching Pink and Chum Salmon are thought to be on the path which will eliminate rivers being necessary for reproduction

Went this morning to the lower end. Released one that was foul hooked in front of the snag line. Guy came up and shook my hand saying that was the first fish he saw released that was snagged...Hmm Caught two others up river. A indian got 19 today snagging amongst the gauntlet.
The closed water section below the power line had a couple hundred fish hiding from the snaggers . Like they knew it was sanctuary!! Saw some chromers that would go into the high teens swimming around.
Fun Morning again.
