rvrtramp this is bad news. It realy makes me mad. I think you should report it to the cops. I will also ask around to some of the locals that live up there to see if they may have some insight in to this. I have heard that this happens at the kalama park camp area often. I will keep my eyes open for you.

Rvrtramp, I personally think you are being much to nice to these punks by merely "cracking" knee caps. I would become very violent towards the culprits. I'm quite sure that I'd face assult charges of some level but I guarentee that they would consider their actions the next time.. I cannot stand theives and opportunists!

This is also a problem on the Green river. I had a buddy have 3 Loomis rods with reels stolen from his van when he was parked on a fairly busy road at 9 in the morning. I had an alarm system installed on my truck just in case.

Consider the places your fishing. The Kalama, the meat hole(Cedar Creek), then look at the kind of people that are fishing there, it says a lot about snaggers as a group. Nice ethics. I too have had a tackle box stolen out of the back of my truck at one of these places. I imagine it was some toothless wonder that wouldn't know the first thing to do with the stuff in that box.

Gents: A fish and game officer spotted my little locked-up, fiberglass-covered trailer parked in the bushes along the upper Kalama. I think I was at the old Mahaffey's store when he came up to me. I'm sure the out-of-state license plate on the trailer gave me away. He said in no uncertain terms to leave nothing alone, unattended on that river. Unfortunately, looks like he was right.

This is not only a problem for fishermen but for hunters, hikers also. Maybe if they set up a decoy and wait for it to happen. It wouldn't take long since it happens all the time. Some of these people that do it are not very smart as a lot of fishermen I know pack a side arm!

That`s exactly the reason why I never made the clean-up on the 16th even though I was down there for it. When I pulled in there I was warned by some guys fishing that what they called gypsies have been driving around there ripping people off and to not leave anything unattended,it put enough of a paranoia in me to not leave my gear. It unfortunate there`s people like that out there but I guess it takes all kinds.

rvrtramp,

Sorry to hear about you getting ripped off. What day did it happen? I was up at the dead line on Sunday. I was picking up some trash at the parking spot there and noticed some shattered safety glass up in there. The first thing I thought was that someone got smashed and grabbed. Doesn't sound like what happened to you, but sounds like something additional. This is a shame. Any identifying marks on the gear that got stolen? I would be glad to keep an eye out. If you would rather keep it off the board, my email is tdodge@rhhk.com. I usually get your e-mails although I haven't had much luck mailing you back. This really sucks. Sorry to hear it. Tad.

Rivertramp;
This really bites. I've got a couple of poles you can use next time we get together.

OK his is a question for you folks that may know. I have renters insurence $100.00 a year it will cover all my stuff in a fire or a rip off in my house. Now I have made a call to see if this will cover getting stuff riped off from my car and have not gotten an answer yet. Do any of you now of a way we can insure our gear? For me, if the answer I get is " YES your car is insured also". A $ 100.00 a year would not be bad.

People, this has been a problem in the Puget Sound area for years. DO REPORT ANY PROBLEMS. It will get registered and the police/sherif pay attention to reports. And dont leave stuff out in the open. thanks

Actually, your home owners insurance will pick it up. I once had a bunch of stuff ripped off out of my truck while fly fishing down at Pyramide lake in Nevada. One thing thats pretty importaint as that you keep the receipts from the high priced fishing items that you buy.. The guy at Allstate or wherever will have a hard time believing that you had 3 fly rods with reels and lines with a total value over 3,000 bucks..

Hows this for a piss off.. Once on a whitewater trip ( 3 days) left truck at the takeout. Somebody decided to break out the wing window with a rock. Instead of just hitting it up close they stood back and threw the rock, missing the wing window and hitting the door and front panel of the truck several times.. Soooo, instead of just losing 50 bucks worth of crap out of the cab of the truck substained several thousand dollars worth of damage.. My buddy was major pissed when he found his brand new Ford all smashed up over a couple of C.D's and a pair of gloves.

This same type of thing was happening regularly at Lenice and Nunnally lake a few years ago. The sheriff finally set-up a "stake-out" type thing and watched the parking lot from the sand dunes and busted the guys after just a couple of days.

I understand your anger. I've had my truck broken into twice, and my house robbed THREE times. It sucks and permanently changes the way you look at society, and people.
