The Coho are in off the mouth of my favorite South Sound tributary. Good mix of Native and Hatchery fish. Tossing spinners at them with good success but want to go after them with my bugrod tonight. Looking for some good patterns to throw at them. The fish are right up next to the beach in less than six feet of water, any ideas on floating vs. sinktips, leader length, etc. Any help would be appreciated. Tight lines!

I have a pattern that I originally tied for humpies in the lower Stilly and subsequently found was pretty effective for coho on the beaches.
Hook: Size 6 or 8 Mustad 34007.
Body: Pearl diamond braid
Wing: Pink rabbit strip, tied in at the bend of the hook, trailing about a hook length behind and brought forward over the body and tied in just behind the hook eye.
Topping: A few strands of pink Flashabou, tied on top of the wing
Eyes: silver bead chain
I tie in the rabbit strip at the hook bend first, then the body, then bring the rabbit strip forward and tie it in, then add the bead chain eyes. We've come to call it the Hubert Humpy.
It didn't work too well the other day, I only took one coho while a couple of guys nearby took two limits. A little later I overheard them telling someone that they had taken them all on "the Yellow Spider". I don't know what the Yellow Spider might be; a Knudsen Spider, a Marabou Spider, a Rversed Spider? Anyhow, we finished up the day by going outside the baymouth bar (hint) and catching some nice cutthroat along the beaches north of the bay.
